Mud-folk band Lord Buffalo had to cancel their European tour in light of the recent incident involving band member and drummer Yamal Said.
As per a statement posted on the band’s Instagram page, Said was forcibly deboarded from a plane to Europe by Border Patrol at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on May 12, 2025. Calling off the European tour, the band wrote:
“We appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support from y’all today. We still know very little about the situation, but we have been asked by our drummer’s family and his legal team to respect their privacy while this situation evolves.”
Lord Buffalo went on:
“We intend to do so, and we send all our love their way. We’ll share updates from the family when we can. Thanks again for everyone’s support.”
According to Billboard, although Yamal Said is originally from Mexico, he was a green-card holder. The band explained that Yamal was yet to be released. They were working with an immigration lawyer to get more details and try to help him. They hoped this would be a temporary issue and that they might be able to reschedule the tour later.
Lord Buffalo mentioned that Yamal had legal support and they were waiting for updates. The band admitted they didn’t have many answers and promised to share more information when they could. They also asked for privacy for Yamal’s family.
Why was Lord Buffalo’s Yamal Said arrested?
According to NBC News, the Customs and Border Protection detained Said at the airport as he tried to depart from the US despite having an arrest warrant. However, details about the arrest warrant are unknown at the time of writing the story. Meanwhile, sharing a Facebook post on May 14, 2025, Lord Buffalo wrote:
“We are devastated to cancel this tour, but we are focusing all of our energy and resources on Yamal’s safety and freedom. We are hopeful that this is a temporary setback and that it could be safe for us to reschedule this tour in the future.”
They added:
“In our absence, our touring partners Orsak:Oslo will continue to perform the tour. We urge everyone to go see this amazing band and support them over the next couple weeks.”
Lord Buffalo had an eight-show tour across Europe to promote their newest album, Holus Bolus. They were to perform with the Swedish group Orsak:Oslo, starting on May 15, 2025, in the Netherlands and ending the tour in Iceland. Orsak:Oslo also shared a statement about the development, writing:
“We’re devastated by the situation Lord Buffalo and their drummer Yamal have been forced into. No one should be pulled off a plane and jailed for simply trying to travel and make art with their band. We won’t pretend to understand the full complexity of the situation, but this should not happen anywhere."
Orsak:Oslo said they supported the choice to cancel the tour, believing it was the best decision for Yamal, the band, and their values. Although difficult and emotional, they had been excited about traveling, performing, and connecting with the band.
They expressed their care for Yamal and shared their support for Lord Buffalo, hoping they could eventually perform together in the future.
