Rapper and reality TV personality Ray J is getting heat for the comments he made about the 2020 shooting incident between Megan Thee Stallion and Tory Lanez. In a live-streamed conversation with Amber Rose, Ray J said that he had “seen a girl shooting,” suggesting that Tory Lanez was not the one to shoot at Megan.

"From what I saw, it was a girl shooting. Yes. Tory Lanez was inside, the girl was out... Meg's coming up with this story." The R&B singer said.

He and Amber Rose said that the woman shot three times into the air before Lanez intervened, and the gun went off two more times. Further, Ray J insisted that it was not common for anyone to shoot from the position Lanez supposedly shot Megan Thee Stallion.

"Like, it's impossible. Like, n***as ain't shooting over people." He said.

The statement has been met with a swift backlash from fans and critics. Many on social media are slamming Ray J, accusing him of spreading false information and undermining the judicial system.

"Why are they blatantly lying?" Remarked on Instagram user.

More celebrities who have voiced out their support for Tory Lanez amidst Ray J's claims

The 2020 incident, which occurred outside Kylie Jenner’s home in Los Angeles, left Megan Thee Stallion with gunshot wounds to both of her feet. Lanez was subsequently convicted in 2023 on assault and firearms charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Following the controversial court case, several public figures have expressed their support for Lanez and his freedom. According to Forbes, musicians, including Drake, Kanye West, and Chris Brown, have shared a petition calling for California Governor Gavin Newsom to pardon Lanez.

The petition, supported by the Caldwell Institute of Public Safety, asserts that the evidence was marginal and that the rapper’s conviction was the result of unfair court hearings.

Megan Thee Stallion, who is now living a more private life, called attention to the increasing campaign for Lanez’s release, calling him an abuser and the campaign to free him retraumatizing. In a TikTok video, she addressed Tory Lanez as a "f*** demon" and requested his supporters to leave her alone.

Despite the continued discussion, no court motion has been submitted to challenge Lanez’s conviction, and his sentence continues.
