Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman will be officially stepping away from the band's remaining 2025 tour dates to undergo surgery on his right hand.
Joe Trohman made the announcement via a statement shared on the band's official social media accounts on July 7, 2025. The post confirmed that he will sit out the rest of the year to prioritize recovery and prevent permanent damage.
Though Joe Trohman will be absent, Fall Out Boy will continue performing all previously scheduled tour dates without interruption. However, the band has yet to announce who will temporarily take over lead guitar duties in his absence.
Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman's complete official statement regarding his temporary absence
His official statement is as follows:
"Hey everyone, after years of managing ongoing issues with my righthand, it's become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage. Unfortunately, this means I will have to take the rest of the year off from playing with the band. The silver lining is that I'm on track for a full recovery."
Joe Trohman added:
"The band will still be playing all scheduled shows. I am looking forward to recovering so I can get back out there with the guys. Thanks so much for the love and support. Joe"
Trohman co-founded Fall Out Boy in 2001 alongside bassist Pete Wentz. They later recruited vocalist Patrick Stump and drummer Andy Hurley. The Chicago-based band primarily rose to fame with their 2005 album, From Under the Cork Tree, which featured hits such as "Sugar, We're Goin Down" and "Dance, Dance."
Fall Out Boy is one of the beloved rock acts of the 2000s. Their recent project, 2023's So Much (for) Stardust, was well received. They also have an active touring schedule this year.
Notably, Joe Trohman previously took a break from the band in early 2023 to focus on his mental health. He returned to the stage in May of that year and resumed regular performances. Now, two years later, he steps back again due to physical health issues.
