"Why they look so awkward" — Internet reacts to Lionel Messi and his wife being shown on the jumbotron at the Coldplay concert in Miami

Footballer Lionel Messi and his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, were in attendance at Coldplay’s Miami concert on July 27. The news comes weeks after Astronomer CEO Andy Byron was caught with another person from his company at another Coldplay concert.

Messi and his wife were shown on the jumbotron, where he was seen waving at the camera. Chris Martin said:

“Lio. My beautiful brother. You and your wife are looking so fine. Thanks for coming today to see our band playing, the number one sportsperson of all time.”

Social media users reacted to this. While some brought in the comparison between Lionel Messi and Ronaldo, others referred to Byron’s incident. One X user commented:

“Why they look so awkward.”

Netizens wrote that it was a trend where one is expected to react as Byron and the woman did after they were spotted on the kiss cam screen.

“They didn't do the thing?????” a social media user joked.
“Messi loves attending coldplay concerts last time he was also at Barcelona concert,” a platform user noted.
“I swear everyone be doing this, it’s like a new trend lmao,” a netizen reacted.

Fans applauded Lionel Messi and noted that even Chris Martin greeted him after being seen on the screen.

What we know about Lionel Messi and Antonela Roccuzzo

Lionel Messi met Antonela Roccuzzo when he wasn't even a teenager. Antonela is Argentine footballer Lucas Scaglia’s cousin. They were friends first, but began dating when they were 17. E! News what Messi told Newsweek in 2009, which was:

“Yes, I have a girlfriend. She is in Argentina. The truth is that I am well and I am relaxed.”

Speaking to Marca in 2019, Lionel Messi said his wife had many great qualities. He admired how she handled everyday life, stayed cheerful, and dealt with problems strongly. He also said she was smart and did well in everything she did. After his eldest son Thiago was born in 2012, he told a media outlet:

“If things didn't go my way before, I became withdrawn and didn't want to see or listen to anyone. Now, when I arrive home, I see my son and everything is OK.”

Lionel Messi and Antonela's second son, Mateo, came to their lives in 2015. In a 2019 interview with ESPN, he said that Mateo held a special place in their lives. He said there were similarities between him and Mateo. When he turned 8, Antonela shared a birthday post, writing (translated):
