South Korean singer Youngjae, a member of the group GOT7, recently spoke about safety issues that women face in South Korea. After the final show of his musical, he held a short fan meeting and later went on the Bubble app to talk to fans.
He told fans to get home safely and shared his worries about women being targeted at night. He said,
"When I see how so many crimes are targeted at women who live alone or walk alone, it's just not right, South Korea isn't safe anymore at night. (..) The fact that we even have to be careful is absurd. It shouldn't be this way, right?"
Although tired, Youngjae took time to go live and continue the discussion. He expressed his concerns and troubles regarding the crimes women face while walking alone. Many fans were surprised by how openly he talked about the issue. His comments have sparked more conversation about the issue of safety and gender within South Korea.
"Youngjae speaking out hits deep — it’s heartbreaking that women have to live in fear just going about their day or night. South Korea, like many places, needs serious change to make safety a reality, not a luxury. Powerful words that deserve attention." said a fan. (via X)

"clock that tea again for me king!! we need more idols to speak up about this to spread awareness." remarked a fan. (via X)
"Youngjae has always spoken up about women's rights, especially when he was on the radio. This is nothing new coming from him, but it's always appreciated" remarked another fan. (via X)
