Miley Cyrus has stepped up to defend the pop genre in a recent interview with Zane Lowe.

The interview was released on May 21 on Apple Music's YouTube channel. It features Miley Cyrus in a black cut-out blazer, with golden embellished high-neck collars. The fifty-five-minute video showed the pop star speaking candidly about her music and career.

The singer mainly spoke about her upcoming album, Something Beautiful, which is set to release on May 30. She also talked about her tours and shared insights into different parts of her life.

During the interview, when talking about the pop genre, she shared her experience of producing pop music by saying,

"Pop really gets given a bad name, of like, you know, many manufactured label creations. And that's just not what it is. That's generic, and to be honest, it's lazy. Because you're not doing your research, you're not doing your homework, you're not listening to enough music, and you're not diving into culture, and you're not keeping up."

After giving examples of Sabrina Carpenter's and Harry Styles' music, Cyrus added,

"For anyone that is not paying attention to pop music, you know, tune your ear."
