Jennifer Lopez has dropped a new single, and some fans are not impressed. The New York-born singer shared news of the release of her latest project, "BIRTHDAY," on social media and received mixed reactions to it.

The track appropriately titled "BIRTHDAY" was released in commemoration of the multihyphenate entertainer’s 56th birthday. The cover art for "BIRTHDAY" features the toned torso of a woman, presumably the singer’s, in a cropped white shirt and denim pants.

The "BIRTHDAY" track was released with a visualizer, which features footage from her Up All Night tour. In the clips, the "On The Floor" hitmaker is dressed in silver sequins and matching boots.

Signs that read “everyday is my birthday” are scattered around the setup. "BIRTHDAY" drops months before Lopez’s musical film, which is scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 10, 2025. The film will star Diego Luna.

@Pop Base on X shared the news that Jennifer Lopez had dropped a new track titled BIRTHDAY, and @rjduarte tweeted in response:

“She should stick to acting and dancing.”

More reactions trail Jennifer Lopez’s release of the "BIRTHDAY" on her birthday

While a section of the comments on X criticized the singer’s new release, another praised Lopez for her steadfast commitment to creating music.

@ChetGeePeeT tweeted:

“Happy Birthday, no more music tho JLO! PLEASE"

Other comments of similar sentiment were made too.

“She should just give up at this point, no shade,” @beauinurquiver added.
“We all know how her last attempt at a “comeback” turned out,” @coquedahling expressed.

Several fans praised Lopez and gushed about the release:

“Loved this artcover. I will listen to it on Friday. J LO deserves all the best. Great catalog and phenomenal pop culture figure,” @juniorwaldorf added on X.
“J.Lo just dropped "BIRTHDAY" and it's giving full glam, groove, and goddess energy,”. @DaryaabTalash praised.
“omg we will be streaming queen!” @chihiroloverr stated.

According to The Daily Mail, Jennifer Lopez has reportedly parted ways with her former record label BMG and is now said to be an independent artist. The news outlet alleged that sources close to BMG revealed that Jennifer Lopez had a deal with the record company for only one album, and following disappointing sales, the parties agreed to go their separate ways. The insider is quoted as saying:

"Jennifer is obviously massively successful and talented but it's been hard for her to find a label who she is on the same page with. After her last album came out, it was decided she wouldn't continue with BMG as it wasn't the success she wanted."
