Sabrina Carpenter recently appeared on CBS Mornings to talk about her new album, Man's Best Friend. During her appearance, the singer stated that she is alright with not appealing to everyone with her music and that it is okay if "Tommy from Arkansas" doesn't like music:
"I always say: You don't have to like what I do. I think there's this weird misconception that every artist has to check every box for everyone to like everything about them. It's never been that way. It's never gonna be. So I'm okay if Tommy from Arkansas doesn't like what I do."
This statement has triggered reactions from fans, who took to social media to respond to the statement, as exemplified by the tweets quoted below:
"She’s so unserious for name dropping a random tommy… like girl knew exactly what she was doing."
Fans were supportive of Sabrina Carpenter, while some netizens reacted more critically to the singer's statement:
"This is the mindset most artists should have tbh. They should write music that feels authentic to them, not do it just for charts money and popularity," one fan stated.
"Honestly this is the healthiest mindset any artist can have. If you’re making music just to please every random stranger with WiFi, you’ll burn out quick. The best songs in history came from people who didn’t care about mass approval nowadays too many chase TikTok charts and end up sounding copypaste," another fan stated.
"So she’s basically admitting she doesn’t care about the average fan and expects everyone to worship her art anyway," a netizen commented.
"Almost like having a target demographic is important. She's going after Gen Z and Millenial females, 18-35 basically. Tommy from Arkansas is irrelevant," another commenter opined.

In an interview with Rolling Stone in June 2025, Sabrina Carpenter addressed the controversy surrounding the album's orignal cover art, which features her on her knees in front of a person, with her hair being held by that person:
"It’s always so funny to me when people complain. They’re like, ‘All she does is sing about this.’ But those are the songs that you’ve made popular. Clearly, you love s*x. You’re obsessed with it. It’s in my show. There’s so many more moments than the ‘Juno’ positions, but those are the ones you post every night and comment on."
Carpenter continued:
"I can’t control that. If you come to the show, you’ll [also] hear the ballads, you’ll hear the more introspective numbers. I find irony and humour in all of that, because it seems to be a recurring theme. I’m not upset about it, other than I feel mad pressure to be funny sometimes."
Man's Best Friend was produced by Carpenter with Jack Antonoff and John Ryan. It was released by Island Records and has a total of 38:50 minutes and seconds for the standard edition. The album's bonus track takes the runtime to 42:13 minutes and seconds.
