Katy Perry paused her Detroit show on Sunday to assist a young fan who collapsed onstage. The incident happened at the Little Caesars Arena when Perry invited several fans to join her onstage for a duet of her hit song “The One That Got Away,” with the young fan named McKenna also among those who were selected to participate in the performance.
According to the videos that have been emerging since the incident, McKenna was visibly emotional when she appeared on stage with Katy Perry. But then, just as the performance was to commence, McKenna collapsed on stage. Perry did not waste a second and went to McKenna and stayed with her until medical personnel arrived.
After ensuring McKenna was receiving proper medical attention, Perry gathered the remaining fans onstage for a group hug. While the young fan was being tended to by the medical staff, Perry even led a brief prayer for McKenna’s recovery, as she was quoted as saying:
"Dear God, we pray for McKenna, that she will come back fully and brighter and better than ever. It’s so much. Sometimes you’re so brave and you can get on stage, and it’s overwhelming. I understand that feeling."
