Swans have announced their final "Big Sound" tour across Europe and the UK. The run is officially scheduled for fall 2025.

The experimental rock group, led by founding member Michael Gira, will hit the road from October 23, 2025, in Leipzig, Germany. The announcement follows the upcoming release of Swans' 17th studio album, Birthing, which was officially released on May 30, 2025, via Young God Records/Mute.

This tour will be the last iteration of Swans in their current large-format lineup, which is often referred to by fans as the "Big Sound" mode.

Initially, Swans shared the tour announcement via an official Instagram post that read:

"*POSTED BY YGR STAFF* SWANS announce autumn EU/UK tour to support 17th studio album, Birthing, with support from Jessica Moss. Ticket links via YGR website in bio."

A report in That Eric Alper describes the trek as the Swans' final "Big Sound" tour.

The lineup for this final chapter includes Michael Gira, Kristof Hahn, Dana Schechter, Larry Mullins, Phil Puleo, Christopher Pravdica, and Norman Westberg. Swans will continue in a more stripped-down form following this run. Canadian violinist Jessica Moss will serve as the support act on all European and UK dates.

Swans was originally formed in New York City in 1982 per BlabberMouth, and the band gained a notable following for their early work before launching into more expansive experimentation. Some of their beloved albums include Filth (1983), Soundtracks for the Blind (1996), and their critically acclaimed post-2010 albums The Seer (2012) and To Be Kind (2014).

Birthing and the end of a Swans era

Birthing, Swans' new album, was dropped on May 30, 2025. It was made from material developed during the Swans' 2023–2024 live tour cycle. Tracks like The Healers, I Am a Tower, and the title track Birthing began as acoustic sketches in Gira's studio. Swans eventually transformed the tracks through the full band's performance process. The album also includes two studio-born compositions: Red Yellow and The Merge.

Initial pressings of Birthing on triple vinyl and double CD include a bonus DVD. It will feature the concert film Swans Live 2024 (Rope) The Beggar, and the documentary I Wonder If I'm Singing What You're Thinking Me to Sing, which is based on Gira's 2022 solo tour.

Fans can keep an eye on the official Swans pages for further updates.
