Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ 2024 Smash hit Die With a Smile has made history as the first song to spend 200 days at the pinnacle of the Spotify Global chart. The pop-soul and soft rock track was released in August 2024 to commercial success.
It became the longest-reigning daily number one single on Spotify and has reigned on the Billboard Global 200 for more than eighteen weeks. The song was also well-received by critics upon its release and described by some as a sequel to her Oscar-winning 2018 single Shallow.
Die With a Smile topped official charts in more than 25 countries and won the award for Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance at the Grammy Awards 2025. In an interview with the Los Angeles Times published in December 2024, the 14-time Grammy Award winner revealed that she knew that the lyrics of the song would appeal to a large audience:
"It was the lyrics — this idea of a song that was about what we would do if the world was ending. I just remember feeling like it was a song that people needed to hear. I write music all the time, and sometimes you feel like you’re making something that some people will like. But there’s other times that you work on something and you just know it’s gonna deeply speak to all different kinds of people. I knew it right away."
