The Life of a Showgirl: The story behind Taylor Swift’s October 3 album release date

Taylor Swift’s 12th album, The Life of a Showgirl, is scheduled to drop on October 3, 2025, and as expected, the singer has left hidden messages in the videos and photos promoting the album.

Fans and media are having a field day digging up clues and solving puzzles craftily hidden by Swift.

Although Taylor Swift is not one to talk about the hidden clues and messages in her work, she opened up to MTV News about the significance of the number 13 to her.

Her upcoming album hits the airwaves on 10/3, which is a play on her lucky number 13. Swift described the number 13 as being significant in her life:

"I was born on the 13th. I turned 13 on Friday the 13th. My first album went gold in 13 weeks. My first No. 1 song had a 13-second intro. Every time I've won an award, I've been seated in either the 13th seat, the 13th row, the 13th section or row M, which is the 13th letter."

She concluded:

"Basically, whenever a 13 comes up in my life, it's a good thing."

The Blank Space hitmaker disclosed why she loved including puzzles and hidden messages in her music projects. In a 2021 appearance on the Jimmy Fallon Show, the singer said:

“I wanted to do something that incentivized fans to read the lyrics because my lyrics are what I’m most proud of. When it got out of control was when I started to realize that it wasn’t just me that had fun with this, that they had fun with it too.”

Apart from the number 13, October is special in her boyfriend’s family. Travis Kelce, who began dating Swift in 2023, marks his birthday on October 5. His mom, Donna Kelce, has hers on October 9. Jason Kelce’s oldest daughter, Wyatt, will mark her birthday on October 2.

The Pennsylvania-born artist dropped other projects in October—her eponymous debut album, Speak Now, Red, 1989 and Midnights. A track on The Life of a Showgirl is titled Opalite. This refers to a birthstone for those born in October. On the New Heights podcast, Taylor Swift told her boyfriend:

“I picked a good month. You know, all these Libras out here.”
