Heavy metal act Lamb of God recently released a studio cover of Black Sabbath's beloved 1971 protest anthem " Children of the Grave." The release came just hours after the Virginia-based band performed the track live at Back to the Beginning, the all-star farewell concert for Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath. It was held at Villa Park in Birmingham, England on July 5, 2025.

The performance was part of a night to honor one of the most influential acts of metal in their hometown. It saw Lamb of God perform with some of rock and metal's most beloved names, including Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool, Pantera, Slayer, and Anthrax. They all paid tribute to arguably the genre's foundational band in their own ways.

Lamb of God followed up their appearance at Back to the Beginning with a surprise release of their studio-recorded version of "Children of the Grave." The track is now available on multiple streaming platforms. Listen to it below:

The band was formed in 1994 in Richmond, Virginia. Lamb of God debuted under the name Burn the Priest. The band changed its name in 1999 and soon became a known name in the groove metal, metalcore, and thrash scenes.

In an official statement, Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton mentioned:

"Lamb of God being invited to perform with Black Sabbath at their final show is one of the greatest honors of our career. As an offering to the celebration, we have recorded our take on their classic 'Children of the Grave', a protest song with lyrics that are as relevant today as they were in 1971 when the original was released."

He also added:

"Black Sabbath invented heavy metal and in doing so, they changed the world. This genre that they created brings immeasurable joy to fans all over the globe. We are so grateful to have the heavy metal community to call our home, and so grateful to Black Sabbath for the gift of their music that they have given to all of us."

Lamb of God's cover was one of many significant moments of the night's setlist of Sabbath classics. Metallica played "Hole in the Sky" and "Johnny Blade," and Guns N' Roses performed deep cuts like "Junior's Eyes" and "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath."

Lamb of God's take on "Children of the Grave" was well-received by fans both at the venue and online. The original track by Black Sabbath appeared on Master of Reality over 50 years ago.
