It would seem that Mariah Carey was blissfully unaware of Katy Perry’s controversial space travel. One would recall that Katy Perry, alongside a women-only squad consisting of journalist Gayle King, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, socialite Lauren Sanchez, activist Amanda Nguyen and producer Kerianne Flynn, flew to outer space in April 2025.

The event was brought up in an August interview that Mariah Carey had on BBC Radio’s The Scott Mills Breakfast Show, and the singer seemed confused. Scott Mills asked the singer if she wanted to go to space like Katy Perry, and the latter responded:

"Did she go to space?"

The show’s host confirmed that the Fireworks hitmaker had gone to space. Carey then asked where her colleague had gone in space:

“Where'd she go?”

When the show host confirmed that Perry had “gone into the orbit and back.” Carey then asked:

"Into orbit and back? She was, like, floating in the... and this is true?"

Scott Mills replied:

"Yeah, I have not made this up. This is true."

Mariah Carey seemed shocked by the news and expressed that she was impressed by Perry’s accomplishment:

"Wow. Alright, Katy," a seemingly shocked Carey said, adding, "I’m not mad at her. That’s pretty amazing."

“I think I’ve done enough,” Mariah Carey says she isn’t ready to visit space

Although the Obsessed singer spoke highly of her colleague’s visit to outer Space, she admitted that she couldn’t pull it off.

Mills talked about Katy Perry’s visit to space:

"I mean, she hasn't stopped talking about it since. But it happened. Would you do it?" he asked Mariah.

The R&B icon replied:

"I think I've done enough."

Katy Perry joined five other women on Flight NS-31, taking them to space and returning after 19 minutes. The Fireworks hitmaker posted on her Instagram:

"One day, when you’re older, will YOU still look up in wonder? Still processing this incredible journey ✨ Thank you @blueorigin and to my space sisters, taking up space AND making room in space for all - 143."

The space expedition received backlash as several public figures condemned it, stating that more important things could be done in the world.
