In one of the most significant moments of the 2025 King's Birthday Honours list, Roger Daltrey, the frontman of The Who, has officially been knighted at the age of 81.

The singer was recognized for his impact on British music over the past six decades. This recognition was also due to his notable efforts toward charitable causes, particularly his role in supporting young people with cancer.

The honor was bestowed by King Charles III and acknowledged Roger Daltrey's "remarkable contribution to British music and culture" as well as his fundraising efforts that have helped raise over £36 million (around $48 million) for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Roger Daltrey's official statement following his knighthood

Following the announcement, Sir Roger Daltrey said in a statement:

"It is a wonderful honor for me and especially for Teenage Cancer Trust. I accept this award not only for myself but on behalf of all the unsung heroes who have given their energy towards making the Teenage Cancer Trust the success it has become."

He also added:

"The likes of The Who and their fans, Angie Jenkison, Lindsay Hughes, Des Murphy, Rob Ballantine and the late Chris York are some of many who have done so much to elevate the charity, to the point where it now has 28 specialist units in NHS hospitals across the U.K."

The recognition comes months after Sir Roger Daltrey collaborated with the late Brian Wilson and the Miraculous Love Kids organization on a reimagined version of Wilson's Love and Mercy. The project aimed to help Afghan girls from the war-torn region find safety in Belfast.

Jo Twist OBE, CEO of the BPI, and BPI Chair YolanDa Brown OBE DL, praised Roger Daltrey's impact, saying:

"We're delighted that Sir Roger Daltrey CBE has been recognized with a knighthood – it's richly deserved not just for his remarkable contribution to British music and culture over half a century, but for the tens of millions of pounds that his relentless fundraising and brilliant live performances have generated for Teenage Cancer Trust, among other causes."

They continued:

"Sir Roger Daltrey is a true inspiration and we salute him, and all the other honourees from the worlds of music and the creative arts for enriching our lives with their brilliant human artistry and achievements."
