Taylor Swift has recently upped her security and got a restraining order against her ex-convict stalker, Brian Jason Wagner. The 35-year-old singer has been receiving threats from Wagner and is worried about a similar attempt to the Charlie Kirk assassination. Eight days ago, Swift attended Travis Kelce's game and was protected by a bulletproof shield.
Coming back to Brian Jason Wagner, the ex-convict is not allowed to come close to Taylor's house, car, or workplace. He must remain 100 yards away from her all the time for the next five years. At the same time, he is now allowed to own a gun, any ammunition, or weapons of sorts during these five years.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time Taylor Swift has been stalked. Keep reading to know about more incidents where Swift faced something similar.
5 incidents where Taylor Swift was stalked
Taylor Swift has been stalked by obsessive fans quite a number of times, so much so that a software was developed in order to identify her stalkers from her fans. Disgraceland host, Jake Brennan, said in an episode three years ago:
"The threats on her life have become so persistent that her security team installed facial recognition software at the venues she performs in to specifically distinguish her stalkers from her fans... Imagine that you're so famous and so harassed that [you’d need] technology that is specially programmed and installed to identify the lunatics that want to kill you."
Swift has faced so many stalkers in her life, and this is what she has to say about them:
"You get enough stalkers trying to break into your house and you kind of start prepping for bad things... Every day I try to remind myself of the good in the world, the love I've witnessed, and the faith I have in humanity. We have to live bravely in order to truly feel alive, and that means not being ruled by our greatest fears."
Here are the five Taylor Swift stalker incidents.
Trying to break into her Tribeca apartment
Last year, a man was arrested for trying to break into Swift's apartment in Tribeca. The man has been unidentified, but he was described as a "disorderly person".
An officer told Page Six:
"Upon arrival, [police] were informed that the individual attempted to open a door to a building at the location."
Other sources reveal that the man has been scanning the area "for a few weeks." Another resident mentioned how they have tried to call the police multiple times, but they never did anything about it, until the man tried to break in.
Reports from other residents say:
"When he arrived before Christmas, my husband asked what he was doing here and he said, 'I want to see Taylor.'"
Another said:
"He even had flowers at one point."
Additionally, the man was:
"sleeping on the stoop, chain-smoking constantly, shouting, and generally making everyone uncomfortable," according to another neighbor. "I asked him to leave this morning and he just stared at me, catatonic... Total nutcase."
Mitchell Taebel
Mitchell Taebel was one of the identified stalkers. He was arrested in June 2023 on four charges, including stalking, intimidation, harassment, and invasion of privacy. Taebel tried to enter Swift's Nashville residence through an unsecured door, but was stopped by security.
He also tried to attend one of her shows in Nashville but was denied entry after he was recognized. Mitchell went as far as calling Taylor Swift his "soulmate" and even threatened her father and her dancers, in case there was any "sexual performance of 'Vigilant Sh*t.'"
He even managed to send Taylor Swift a voice note, saying:
"he would happily wear a bomb if he cannot be with his soul mate."
The charges against him were dismissed in December due to a lack of witnesses.
Eric Swarbrick
Eric Swarbrick is another case of fan-obsession gone wrong. Swarbrick crossed four states (Austin, Texas, Nashville, Tennessee) three different times, and drove 900 miles to deliver more than 40 letters, including death threats to the Ready For It? singer. He also sent death threats to Big Machine Records and its CEO, Scott Borchetta.
One of the letters read:
"I will not hesitate to kill her, Scott... And there is nothing that you or your lawyers or the law can do about it."
During one of his podcast episodes, Brennan explained the obsession:
"He felt the object of his obsession with Taylor Swift reach out to him in over 100 dreams... Eric logged these visions into his notebooks and [felt] he had waited long enough to claim her."
The first few letters were "respectful," but after not hearing back from Big Machine, they became more threatening. He was sentenced to 30 months of prison and will be released next year, and will remain under supervised release for three years.
Roger Alvarado
Roger Alvarado was one of the stalkers who successfully broke into Taylor Swift's Tribeca home twice.
Brennan said in his podcast:
"Roger Alvarado was among the worst... Police found him napping in the bed of her NYC apartment. He just showered in her private bathroom and was as fresh as a demented little daisy. He was waiting for her."
He was in jail for six months on the charge of attempted burglary, but he broke in again after he was released. After his second attempt, he told Page Six that he would probably do it again. In his words:
"Probably, with more violence, but not towards her. I don't want to hurt her. I just wanted to speak to her, to talk to her. She seems nice [and] cool."
David Liddle
David Liddle was caught near Taylor Swift's Rhode Island mansion in 2019. He had a couple of tools with him, including
"a crowbar. An aluminum baseball bat. Lock picks. A few pairs of rubber gloves."
According to reports, Liddle allegedly told the police that he was an old friend of the singer, seeking some music industry advice. The case against Liddle was dismissed in the same year.
Taylor Swift's ongoing struggles with stalkers show just how dangerous fame can be, forcing her to rely on heavy security and legal action for protection. Despite the repeated threats, she continues to face them with resilience, refusing to let fear control her life.
