Audio clips from Young Thug’s time in custody began spreading online in early September 2025. The tapes come from calls recorded while he was in jail during the YSL RICO investigation and trial from May 2022 to October 2024.
Short clips hit social platforms and music sites. They reached fans, other artists, and news outlets within days. The leaks include private talks, business claims, and blunt comments about fellow musicians.
Some clips forced public apologies. Others sparked anger and debate. The most notable clips are tied to clear dates and people. An August 30 clip with 21 Savage covers plea deals of Thug's brother. An August 31 call with Mariah The Scientist includes talk of label deals. In another clip there was a claim that Thug spent about $50,000 to boost streams. A September 4 clip has a near two-minute rant aimed at GloRilla that led to a public apology.
After these leaks circulated, Young Thug posted on X, suggesting some recordings might be fake or edited.
“Ai jail calls is crazy.”
Leaked calls include specific conversations with peers and partners
The timeline published by HotNewHipHop lists each clip as it appeared online. The August 30 material with 21 Savage covers frustration over plea deals and chart competition. One of the leaked calls includes a claim that Young Thug spent about $50,000 on streaming boosts to push an album’s position.
On September 4, a nearly two-minute clip caught him making harsh comments about GloRilla's appearance. That tape led to a public apology from him. He said,
“First of all I’m sorry to u for my words and I honestly don’t think ur ugly at all, I was speaking from jail just having a hard time with life,” Thug wrote. “I don’t like bashing girls and hardly ever did.. I’m sorry to u twin.”
Those concrete examples are part of why the leaks spread so quickly.
Young Thug both apologized and pushed back publicly

After some clips went viral, Young Thug issued apologies for specific remarks, notably the comments aimed at GloRilla and the admission about cheating on Mariah The Scientist that surfaced in one tape. He said,
“One of my little h*es—one of my little girls—she posting stuff on the internet at my condo from a long time ago.”
He added more details, stating that he told her that the infidelity happened way before it originally did. He apologized to Mariah The Scientist for this. He wrote on X,
“My baby I was wrong and I’m sorry for what I put u through. U deserved better from me. Thank you for everything and I will do anything to make this work. U showed me what love is and I hope I haven’t lost u forever… everybody leave her out of this please she’s an innocent girl and feels bad about all of this. Please give her peace”
At the same time, his short X message and other public responses pushed back against the leaks and suggested some material might not be what it seems. That pattern of apology for content, plus a claim of inauthenticity, has made it harder for listeners to judge which parts to take at face value.
No public forensic proof has confirmed AI tampering

As per the GQ report, there are no published forensic reports proving that any clip is synthetic. Audio forensics can check metadata, look for editing artifacts, and run AI-detection tests, but those steps require access to original files and formal lab work. Until an independent lab publishes results, the suggestion that AI played a role remains an allegation rather than a confirmed finding.
The leaks matter because they touch on reputation and legal history

Young Thug’s legal situation, including the YSL RICO case and his release under a plea arrangement, gives extra weight to anything tied to his time in custody. Leaked tapes that mention loyalty, chart tactics, or personal relationships can affect how fans, peers, and industry figures view him and those around him. Officials also moved to limit access to certain jail records after the leaks, underlining how sensitive the material is.
