The long-awaited sentencing of music mogul Sean Diddy Combs took place on Friday, October 3, 2025, at the Manhattan courthouse in New York. Diddy was sentenced to 50 months in prison, fined $500,000 and ordered five years of supervised release.
On July 2, a jury acquitted the Bad Boy Records founder of racketeering and sex trafficking charges but found him guilty of transporting for prostitution. While his lawyers pressed for fourteen months' imprisonment, prosecutors pushed for over eleven years.
During his last plea to Judge Arun Subramanian, one of Combs's attorneys, Brian Steel, reportedly broke down in tears while discussing the rapper's childhood trauma. He revealed that the rapper’s father was killed when he was three. Diddy’s father, Melvin Combs, was shot and killed in 1972. According to reports, Melvin was sitting in his car on Central Park West when he was murdered. He was 33.

Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to four years and two months in prison. He then urged Diddy to continue to inspire and help communities worldwide:
“Being a champion and uplifting Black and brown communities — that’s what you set out to do at the beginning of your career decades ago. Your letter said you lost your way, but there’s a true path to redemption here: What went wrong and what can be made right.”
He also talked about the rapper’s black history:
“You abused the power and control with women you professed to love. You abused them physically, emotionally and psychologically.”
The judge commended Jane and Cassie Ventura, the two key witnesses in the case, and described them as “brave survivors":
“Jane and Cassie Ventura have been through abuse and trauma we couldn’t imagine. I can only say your families are proud of you, and your children will be proud of you for coming to the court to tell what really happened. You weren’t just talking to the jury, you were talking to the women who feel powerless.”

Cassie Ventura’s attorney, Douglas Wigdor, supported Combs’ sentencing, describing it as a recognition of Diddy’s offense:
“While nothing can undo the trauma caused by Combs, the sentence imposed today recognizes the impact of the serious offenses he committed.”
The lawyer added:
“We are confident that with the support of her family and friends, Ms. Ventura will continue healing, knowing that her bravery and fortitude have been an inspiration to so many.”
