Charlie Kirk shot dead at 31: Inside his journey from student organizer to national figure

Charlie Kirk was tragically shot during a Turning Point USA rally at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. Political figures and celebrities alike have condemned the 31-year-old’s murder.

In 2012, Kirk launched the Turning Point USA organization to promote conservative ideologies on American campuses. The conservative political activist grew from a campus conservative activist to become one of the most prominent right-wing activists of his time.

Announcing Kirk’s death on social media, President Donald Trump said of the late activist:

“No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.”

Kirk was known for his open-air debates on campuses across the country. He grew up in Prospect Heights, Chicago and attended a community college before dropping out to focus on political activism.

The 31-year-old’s podcast usually involved him debating with students and activists on issues such as abortion, climate change, gun laws, identity and faith.

The activist’s political ideologies were intertwined with his spiritual beliefs. He preached about the Seven Mountain Mandate, that Christians are to lead politics, religion, media, business, family, education, and entertainment.

Charlie Kirk played a crucial role in the get-out-the-vote initiative for Donald Trump in the last election. He was credited with registering thousands of new voters for Trump. He was a close ally of Trump and a regular visitor to the White House.

Charlie Kirk has toured America speaking at Republican gatherings and boasts millions of followers on social media. He married Erika Frantzve in May 2021 and had two children.

At the beginning of Kirk’s podcast, Trump’s voice can be heard singing the praise of the former:

"I want to thank Charlie, he's an incredible guy, his spirit, his love of this country, he's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organisations ever created."

Charlie Kirk, who authored the bestselling book The MAGA Doctrine, said in a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in 2020;

"We have to ask ourselves a question as a conservative movement: Are we going to revert back to the party of the status quo ruling class?”

He added:

"Or are we going to learn from what I call the MAGA doctrine? The MAGA doctrine, which is a doctrine of American renewal, revival, is one that America is the greatest country in the history of the world."
