Did Diddy overdose the night of a 2012 Playboy party? Cassie's testimony explored

Cassie Ventura came to the court for cross-examination on the fourth day of Diddy's federal s*x trafficking and racketeering trial on Thursday, May 15, 2025. During the cross-examination, she confirmed that Sean Combs, also known as Diddy, had overdosed on painkillers in February 2012, as per CNN.

Cassie is Diddy's ex-girlfriend and the key witness of the prosecution. During the trial, she gave the court a long and detailed testimony where she spoke about her abusive, on-and-off decade-long relationship with Diddy, the alleged "Freak-Offs", use of drugs, and the mental and physical abuse she claimed to have endured.

Diddy has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest in September 2024.

On the fourth day of the trial, Cassie testified about Diddy's overdose in 2012. Cassie told the court that the day the overdose incident occurred, they were reportedly having a 'freak-off' and then went to a s*x club. She then said that Diddy left for a party at the Playboy Mansion without her.

She further testified, saying that later that night she had to take him to the hospital, where she found out that he had overdosed. As reported by CNN, she said:

''From what he told me, he took a very strong opiate that night, but we didn’t know what was happening, so we took him to the hospital.''

Defense attorney Anna Estevao then asked Cassie several questions regarding Diddy's relationship with drugs and whether he was dependent on opiates, to insinuate that any sort of withdrawal would bring a change in his behavior or affect his mood negatively. As per CNN, the defense attorney also asked Cassie if Diddy was extremely dependent on opiates, to which she replied that for some time, he was.

Other than testifying to the overdose that happened, Cassie was also questioned about the 'freak-offs', and jurors were shown text messages and emails in which Cassie wrote (CNN),

"I love our (Freak Offs) when we both want it".

The defense team used these messages to indicate that Cassie was consenting and not a victim.

According to The Guardian and CNN, Cassie also spoke of jealousy in her relationship with Combs. She said that he was jealous of Combs spending time with a woman named "Gina" in 2014. She added that Combs would suspect her of dating other men. She also spoke of his behaviour when he found out that she was seeing the rapper Kid Cudi and the actor Michael B. Jordan.

Cassie Ventura is now married with two children, and is eight and a half months pregnant as she details her relationship with Combs. She and Combs were in a relationship since 2007, before they split in 2018.

Diddy has pleaded not guilty to federal charges including racketeering, s*x trafficking, and transportation for prostitution. If convicted, he faces a potential life sentence.
