Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) will now be released on May 26, 2026. Previously, the game was scheduled for a late 2025 release. However, Rockstar requires additional time to complete the game properly.

Taking to the official website, the company stated:

"We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game."

They added:

"We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

This delay will result in a 13-year gap between GTA V and GTA VI. GTA V was released in 2013.

The first trailer for GTA VI was released in December 2023 and left fans extremely hyped. But since then, Rockstar has not revealed much new information—until now.

Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, stated that the delay could negatively impact their business strategy for 2025. Take-Two was quoted as saying by The Hollywood Reporter:

"We support fully Rockstar Games taking additional time to realize their creative vision for Grand Theft Auto VI, which promises to be a groundbreaking, blockbuster entertainment experience that exceeds audience expectations."

One final note: Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of GTA 6 yet. This has many PC players concerned that they may have to wait even longer—after the game releases on consoles in 2026… if it does.

Meanwhile, GTA 6 has become the longest-running internet joke.

Nothing is safe from a GTA 6 joke anymore. Whatever happens on the internet, someone will always remark, “[X] happened before GTA 6.” Everything in the world has already happened—except the launch of GTA 6.

When Rockstar finally talks about the game, the internet doesn’t waste a second. Memes erupt far and wide.

With all these delays, everyone is beginning to feel as though the game will never be released. Some even joke that the majority of the world’s population won’t live long enough to see it.

At this point, it feels like Earth might never experience GTA 6.

Social media reacts with memes as GTA 6 gets delayed ... again

If this is all a joke, now’s the time to say it. At this rate, some of us will probably be in old-age homes by the time the game actually comes out.

The game hasn’t dodged the classic joke. Yes, the classic one. It all feels like something from the past, mired in bygone eras.

We all wish to know what the developers have been up to all these years. After waiting for 13 years, we hope the game will be great. But currently, this is the actual representation of the devs in our minds.

This nervous laugh is probably how most fans feel right now. We’re all confused—not knowing whether to laugh, cry, or just let it go like every other update from Rockstar.

The reactions from Mbappé, José Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, and Cristiano Ronaldo probably sum up how every fan feels right now—covering every possible emotion.

Some fans saw a silver lining in the delay, saying they now have more time to purchase a PS5. Though at this point, we might even have time to buy a PS15.

Mankind’s patience has been put to the ultimate test by this company.

And suddenly, Peter’s reaction doesn’t seem exaggerated at all.

Aren’t we all waking up to see the same news for the past 13 years?

It’s a very bitter pill to swallow—but we don’t really have a choice… or do we?

The game was announced in late 2023 with an epic trailer—and a 2025 release date that’s now history.
