Harvey Weinstein, the film producer, was found guilty of one charge but acquitted on another in a new trial in New York on June 11, 2025, according to AP News. This retrial happened because his original conviction from 2020 was cancelled, following which the court ordered a new trial.
Harvey Weinstein has been found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, but acquitted on the second charge of sexually assaulting Kaja Sokola. There is also a third charge against him, which is a third-degree rape charge involving Jessica Mann. The jury has not made any decision on this charge, as per The Guardian.
Weinstein's high-profile case came out during the #MeToo movement, which exposed sexual harassment and assault, especially by powerful men.
Details of the charges against Harvey Weinstein
On Wednesday, Weinstein, who produced films like Shakespeare in Love and Heavenly Creatures, was convicted of first-degree criminal conduct, acquitted of another charge, while the decision on the third charge is yet to be made.
The first charge, which Harvey is convicted of, involves Miriam Haley, a TV and movie producer and assistant. He is found guilty of forcibly performing oral sex on Haley, nearly 20 years ago. Haley had testified that Harvey had assaulted her in July 2006. She had testified that she was backed into a bedroom, pushed onto a bed, and was then assaulted by Harvey.
She had also testified that she did not have any sexual or romantic interest in Harvey, but only needed his help professionally.
The second charge, which Harvey was acquitted of, involved a psychologist and a former model, Kaja Sokola. She had testified that Weinstein had lured her into a bedroom, saying that he had a script to show her, but instead her forced oral sex on her. The incident took place at a Manhattan hotel in 2006. She also testified that he had assaulted her when she was 16, but that allegation was reported too late to be prosecuted under the law.
The third charge on which the jury hasn't reached a verdict involves Jessica Mann, who alleged that Harvey assaulted her in 2013. A hairstylist and cosmetologist, Jessica alleged that she met Harvey at a party, during which he took her to a room and raped her. She also said that she had a consensual, on-and-off relationship with Harvey, and added that his behavior would be harsh if she refused him.
Moving forward, the jury continues deliberation on the third charge on Thursday, June 12, 2025. However, Harvey had pleaded not guilty to the third charge of raping Jessica Mann and also forcing oral sex on both Miriam Haley and Kaja Sokola, empahsizing that all encounters were consensual.
