Popular American television personality Katie Thurston has shared a positive update on her battle with stage four breast cancer. The Bachelorette alum announced on her Instagram on July 7, 2025, that after five months of treatment, her cancer tumors have shrunk. She shared a video of herself following her first scan since her diagnosis in February when she began treatment. The post included a lengthy caption detailing her journey thus far.
“I was diagnosed almost five months ago with #breastcancer. But if I'm being honest, I found the lump maybe 12 months ago. I was 33 years old with no family history. Why would I ever suspect #cancer - but it was. Cancer doesn't happen overnight, and neither should your medical decisions. I delayed treatment to transfer my care to @columbia. I delayed treatment to pursue #ivf with @rmaony - I delayed treatment because I attempted to join a clinical trial, only to be denied after discovering I had #metastaticbreastcancer, meaning stave IV, for life. Three months ago, I was finally put on a plan for my HR+ HER2- breast cancer. kisqali + Lupron + Letrozole.”
She announced that the scan showed the rumor shrinking.
“And today the scans confirmed the tumors are SHRINKING!! I'' share the official medical jargon in the Boobie Broadcast for those curious on the size of before and after. But this is amazing news, and I am so relieved! People don't realize, as it stands now, I'll be on a treatment plan for life. There isn't a cure for breast cancer. But as long as funding for medical research continues, especially for #metavivors, then we have a chance at continuing a long, healthy life.”
More details on Katie Thurston’s cancer journey
Katie Thurston has always been vocal about her battle with metastatic breast cancer. Last month, the 34-year-old talked about the symptoms and daily struggles she dealt with as a cancer patient. She shared her experience with hair and memory loss.

Um, I just finished my second month of treatment and if you are asking how long treatment is- technically forever. I am optimistic about medical advancement in the future,” she said in a video posted on her Instagram on June 1, celebrating National Cancer Survivors Day.
She continued:
“Fingers crossed, a stage four girly. Um, but right now, after finishing two months of my medication, my hair is coming out in an unnatural amount of clumps; I'm working on that. Um, I’m losing my memory.”
Katie Thurston was diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in February. According to a post shared on her Instagram story, she discovered a lump in her breast during the summer of 2024, but she didn't think anything was wrong until after the diagnosis.
