Bella Hadid opened up about self-confidence and her modeling career in a recent British Vogue interview. Hadid is a famous name in the modeling industry and was also given the title of Model of the Year by the British Fashion Awards. She has walked for many famous luxury brands, including Versace, Moschino, Oscar de la Renta, Chanel, and Victoria's Secret.
In the interview, Bella talked about how tough modeling was in the beginning and how she had to look at herself in the mirror every day to maintain the standards.
She further described how she separates her real self from her work self to survive the pressure of being a model by adding,
"Having to look in the mirror every single day, I think it really does something to your self-confidence and to your soul. That’s why I say the girl who’s at work is Belinda. And then the minute that I get home, I’m on the couch, that’s just Bella again. Because Belinda just does her job. She slays."
She further continued,
"I get emotional thinking about it, because it’s like I have put on that alter ego for a very long time. It’s almost a mask because when I get home I am just a depletion. I’m a skeleton."
Bella Hadid shares her journey with Lyme disease and mental health
Bella Hadid has been quite open about her health struggles with fans on social media. In a 2019 birthday post, Hadid talked about mental health by writing,
"the happiness we create online while being sad in real life makes no sense, but sometimes it just seems easier to live within your sadness rather than talk about it. if it wasn’t for the people closest to me, I probably would have still been in that place, and for that, I am forever thankful to them...don’t feel pressured by things online."
In 2023, Bella Hadid opened up about her health struggles in an Instagram post. The model was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012. The post included photos that were taken during her treatment with the caption,
"I have so much gratitude for and perspective on life , this 100+ days of Lyme, chronic disease , co infection treatment, almost 15 years of invisible suffering, was all worth it if I’m able to, God willing, have a lifetime of spreading love from a full cup, and being able to truly be myself, For the first time ever"
The caption also showed Bella thanking her mother and everyone who took care of her during that time, including her agents and doctor. The post was filled with support and love from her fans, many of whom praised her strength for being so open about her struggles.
Bella Hadid returned to the runway in 2024, walking for Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week. She also walked in the Victoria's Secret fashion show a month later, surprising the audience and marking her return.
