Chappell Roan marked her debut at the 2025 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5, 2025.
The Grammy-winning pop star made her first appearance on the red carpet wearing a hot pink patchwork coat, covered with glittery fur. Underneath, she wore a sequined pink jacket with matching bell-bottoms, as she embraced the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, with the dress code “Tailored for You.”
She wore her iconic makeup, which featured silver eye-shadow, strong eye-liner, pale skin, and pink-hued tear tracks, complemented by her red curls. According to Harper’s Bazaar, she was styled by Genesis Webb, and her look was inspired by her hit Pink Pony Club, which featured vibrant pink hues.
However, the internet was flooded with reactions when she stepped on the red carpet. Some of them joked about her flamboyant styling choices, while others cheered her. A user on X commented,
“It’s like if Big Bird and Elmo had a child.”
Here is how the others reacted.

Chappell Roan made her grand debut at this year’s Met Gala, which captured the internet's attention. They were quick to react as some of the users made hilarious comments, while others loved her audacity for her bold appearance.
“What is that? Brave meets hooker Barbie?” A user wrote.
“- “It costs a lot of money to look this cheap.”” Another chimed in.
“Why does she look like a band member of Kiss in Drag?” One user added.
“Chappell Roan did NOT define the theme of the met gala!” A user said.
However, a bunch of other users appreciated her bold style, stating that she followed the theme and dressed better than everyone else.
“that hair is so wild I love it tbh” A user said.
“Nice! Everything about it is just her” Another added.
“I think she followed the theme. Her outfit has a dandy vibe. Unlike many others who didn’t bother to follow the theme.” One user wrote.
“she’s the most INVENTIVE artist we’ve had in YEARS” Someone else wrote.
Sharing more insight on her look, the Midwest Princess’s stylist, Genesis Webb, spoke with Harper’s Bazaar. She said:
“She brings the element of glam drag, and then I bring an element of more punk club kid. I love Rick Owens and Yohji Yamamoto, that very dark and long silhouette. Personally, I like a lot of black, but then there are designers who have recently taken over my brain, like Viktor & Rolf or Thom Browne.”
She added,
“I love that Chappell World is opening me up to, like, ‘Oh, we can do a little color, we can add more, take more risks.’ And I’ve just gained a huge appreciation for the campy theatrical aspect not being so dark, like McQueen.”
According to a report in Billboard, the Good Luck, Babe! Singer was captured in her complete outfit as she exited The Carlyle Hotel before attending the 2025 Met Gala, where she had just posed in her suit.
