IShowSpeed began his streaming journey from his bedroom in Cincinnati, Ohio, and now boasts 40 million YouTube subscribers. The streamer watched his subscriber count increase in a live stream on June 5, 2025, and was overjoyed.
Speed, who was shirtless and wearing grey joggers, launched himself into his setup to celebrate the milestone.
IShowSpeed began by streaming FIFA, Fortnite, and NBA 2k for a handful of viewers. In an interview with Forbes, the 20-year-old revealed that what kept him going during the early days was seeing his viewership increase by one or two people:
"When I first started my stream, I only had one viewer, two viewers, and that kept me going,” he explained. “In week two, I started averaging four viewers. In week three, I started averaging 17 viewers. As more people watched, I thought I could get somewhere with this, and I had fun. So that's what kept me going."
IShowSpeed shared in the interview that his drive to be better pushed him to travel across the world to create better content. He also recalled when he made history by gathering one million concurrent viewers in one livestream. Speed was emotional and cried over the win:
"When I reached that moment, I just started crying because [there were] a million live viewers, something that I always dreamed of. That's the accolade that every streamer wants to reach. And I did it alone. No collab. No event. Just me streaming. That's true art right there."
Fans react to IShowSpeed becoming the most subscribed streamer on YouTube
A clip shared by @FearedBuck on X captures the moment Speed hit 40 million subscribers on YouTube, and viewers have reacted to it. Fans praised the streamer for his achievement, stating that he deserved it:
“He's gotten so many subscribers some people probably don't remember him blowing up in the beginning before he hit a million he gained like hundreds and thousands of subs in a short amount of time and all I gotta say is definitely made the right person famous,” @defnotperk expressed.
“Only 20 Years old. This guy is a genius. His brand shift should be studied. His greatest skill is making idiots think he's the idiot,” @nosko stated.
“Quite the milestone. Hope he keeps doing good with all that say,” @Dusty_Hayze added.
Others were not impressed by the news and did not understand the hype surrounding Speed:
“I don’t understand the hype then again as another person said it most of his subscribers are teens,” @SladeWilson604 tweeted.
“Never watched him once. I don’t think I’m missing anything,” @kevin_deck68714 reacted.
“He’s not a good influencer or influence. Hurting yourself over 40 million is just weirdo to the max behaviour,” @jaxon_mouser added.
