Jojo Siwa has reflected on her controversial 2024 statement about being the first person in her generation to make a dramatic persona change. Siwa, in a TikTok video shared on June 6, 2025, listened to her interview with Billboard and looked embarrassed at her statements.

The Karma singer captioned the video:

“Sometimes you say things. Sometimes you own them, and sometimes you regret them.”

In 2024, JoJo Siwa was asked by Billboard on the red carpet about her rebrand from bow-wearing Nickelodeon pop star to Karma and Boomerang singer; Siwa seemed to think that no one had undergone such transformation before her:

“No one has made this dramatic of a change yet. No one has made in my generation this extreme of a switch. I am the first of a generation. This is very scary, but someone’s gotta do it.”

She added:

“And there are people in my generation who have gone from child star to adult star in the music world. Incredibly, super successful careers. But not this 180, and not making it apparent that it’s a 180.”

Jojo Siwa received backlash for her statement as Netizens cited other artists like Miley Cyrus and Dove Cameron, who had done the same before her.

After the “first of a generation” statement, Siwa broke the internet when she stated she invented “gay pop.”

“It's a beautiful journey”: Jojo Siwa opens up about relationship with Chris Hughes

Jojo Siwa has been in the news lately because of her relationship with fellow Big Brother UK celebrity star Chris Hughes. Before Siwa went on the reality TV show, she was dating non-binary Australian actor Kath Ebbs and identified as a lesbian.

Drama notwithstanding, Siwa has gushed about her relationship in different interviews. In her latest one with People in June 2025, the 22-year-old expressed that it was a beautiful journey:

"It’s a beautiful journey. Serendipity is Christopher and I’s favorite word now. If you read the definition of it, it’s essentially finding love when you’re least looking for it."

The Dance Moms alumnus described her new relationship as evidence of the universe aligning with her. She further stated that she and Hughes started as friends and weren’t looking to date each other initially:

"We just bonded right away, and it started very much so as friends. I wasn't looking to fall for him, he wasn't looking to fall for me, we're having so much fun together, we're having a laugh together."

Jojo Siwa recently released Bulletproof on May 16, 2025. The song is based on the singer’s challenges and how she overcame them.
