Heidi Gardner, who has been with Saturday Night Live for eight seasons, is officially leaving ahead of its upcoming season 51. Variety first reported the news.

Heidi Gardner's exit follows exit announcements from Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker, and Emil Wakim. They have all revealed within the same week that they would not be returning to Studio 8H. Notably, Gardner was the longest-tenured female cast member as of last season. She is known for characters such as teen movie critic Bailey Gismert and Angel, "every boxer's girlfriend from every movie about boxing ever." In Season 49, she appeared in more sketches than any other performer.

Fans took to social media to express their disappointment over Heidi Gardner's 'SNL' exit. One such netizen declared:

"Damn, that's a shame. She was so funny."

Internet reactions to Heidi Gardner leaving 'SNL'

Pop Base took to its official X (formerly Twitter) page to share that,

"Heidi Garner has left SNL after 8 seasons."

Fans soon weighed in on the comment section of the post to share their thoughts. Below are some of the fan reactions:

"Why did she leave? Was she no longer okay with her role?", asked a netizen.
"Damn, end of an era. That Beavis & Butt-Head sketch break will live rent free forever", penned another.
"End of an era! Heidi brought such unique charm and versatility to SNL she will definitely be missed. Can't wait to see what she does next!", expressed a third.

Others also chimed in:

"8 seasons of laughter, characters, and moments we will never forget! Gardner's legacy on SNL is stamped forever.", penned an X user.
"she and bowen yang were the most unfunny ear grating eye sores of cast members thank GOD", opined another.
"lowkey one of the most underrated cast members", stated a third.

Earlier this year, Heidi Gardner hinted at the possibility of stepping away. In a conversation with comedian Craig Ferguson on his podcast Joy, she admitted:

"I will say the only thing that I have started to feel a little bit is just sketch fatigue, or idea fatigue. At this point, after doing Groundlings and SNL for so long, I am like, 'I have written a lot of sketches.'"

Heidi Gardner joined SNL in 2017 during Season 43. She was promoted to the main cast in 2019. One of her most talked-about moments of her SNL career is when she broke character in a sketch with Mikey Day and Ryan Gosling that parodied Beavis and Butt-Head. The clip went notably viral online.

Heidi Gardner also co-stars as Grace in Apple TV+'s Shrinking alongside Harrison Ford and Jason Segel. She also had appearances in Netflix's You, the sitcom Girls5eva, and Adam Sandler's 2022 basketball film Hustle.
