Weeks after a New York Times report accused Elon Musk of frequent use of ketamine and other drugs, the tech billionaire has once again denied the claims.
In an X post on Tuesday, June 17, the Tesla CEO shared a screenshot of a recent urine test. According to the tweet, the results of the urinalysis came out negative for many drugs listed in the report, including ketamine, ecstasy, methadone, cocaine, fentanyl, and more.
The image also revealed that Elon Musk had submitted the sample on June 11, while the report date was June 16. The SpaceX founder/CEO also poked fun at the NYT article by writing:
“Lol.”
While Elon Musk has seemingly denied the drug use, he also called out NYT in separate X posts. A user jokingly wrote under the X Corp founder’s original post that they “would love to see NYTimes staff take the same test.” Musk quoted their post to take a shot at The New York Times and Wall Street Journal and said:
“Great idea. I hereby challenge the NYT and WSJ to take drug tests and publish the results! They won’t, because those hypocrites are guilty as sin.”
In response to Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal)’s quoted post, Elon Musk took another shot at NYT:
“New York Times lies as easy as breathing. It’s normal for them.”
The original story from NYT was published on the same day the world’s richest man bid farewell to DOGE.
The New York Times report claimed that Elon Musk consumed drugs “beyond occasional use”
The NYT report on the Tesla CEO started by addressing him as “one of Donald J. Trump’s closest allies,” while also stating that he donated “about $275 million” to help him win the race. The article cited people familiar with Musk’s activities to claim:
“Mr. Musk’s drug consumption went well beyond occasional use. He told people he was taking so much ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, that it was affecting his bladder, a known effect of chronic use.”
The story also alleged that Elon also consumed “ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms” and used to travel with a “daily medication box.” The report further claimed:
“[The medication box] held about 20 pills, including ones with the markings of the stimulant Adderall, according to a photo of the box and people who have seen it.”
NYT also noted:
“It is unclear whether Mr. Musk, 53, was taking drugs when he became a fixture at the White House this year and was handed the power to slash the federal bureaucracy.”
In the article, The New York Times journalists also claimed that Elon was allegedly using ketamine frequently while mixing it with other drugs. It also reported:
“The line between medical use and recreation was blurry, troubling some people close to him.”
Another journalist used the quote from the NYT article during the May 30 press conference at the Oval Office, where Musk and Trump were in attendance. The xAI founder interrupted and said:
“Is The New York Times the same publication that got a Pulitzer Prize for false reporting on the Russiagate? Is it the same organization? I think it is… I think the judge just ruled against The New York Times for their lies about the Russiagate hoax and that they might have to give back that Pulitzer Prize. That New York Times? Let’s move on! Okay, next question?”
A couple of days later, Elon Musk replied to someone on X and called out NYT by saying:
“I am NOT taking drugs! The New York Times was lying their a*s off. I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on 𝕏, so this not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven’t taken it since then.”
In the days that followed, Elon Musk had a public fallout with Trump on X, which soon turned controversial. On June 7, The Washington Post cited a source to report that the US President addressed his former ally as “a big-time drug addict” on a call to one of his “close confidants and casual acquaintances.”
