"Expose my questionable late-night watch history": Fans react after YouTube rolls out new recap feature

YouTube has launched a new section titled YouTube Recap, which shall offer a deep analysis of a user's top interests based on the their search history. According to The Verge, the new Recap feature, which was launched across the US on December 2, has prompted varied reactions from users. This person took to X (formerly Twitter) to jokingly comment that this new feature would expose their "questionable late-night watch history." They wrote:

"Waiting for mine to expose my questionable late-night watch history.😭"

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news about the new Recap feature comes as the platform announced a trending list of topics for this year. Some of the trending topics of discussion on the platform include Charlie Kirk, labubus, Katseye, Mr. Beast, the Netflix series Squid Game, Kpop: Demon Hunters, among many others.

The YouTube Recap feature announced on Tuesday, December 2, stated that the end-of-the-year highlight would be available in other countries by the rest of the week. According to The Verge, there will be twelve cards that highlight the top channels viewed by the specific user, perfectly showcasing the user's evolving tastes. A statement released by the Official YouTube Blog reads:

"[This new feature] uniquely highlights interests, deep dives, and moments you explored this year, based on your watch history. You’ll get a set of up to 12 different cards that spotlight your top channels, interests, and even the evolution of your viewing habits, or which personality type you fall into based on the videos you loved to watch!"

The Official YouTube Blog further explains that the Recap feature will also showcase the top music the user has listened to over the past year. It will also offer a deep dive "into top genres, podcasts, and even a snapshot of your international music listening over on the YouTube Music app." The YouTube Recap feature can be accessed from the right corner of the homepage or from the "You Tab" section on both "mobile devices and desktop."

This feature update has prompted a ton of reactions from users, with this person taking to X (formerly Twitter) and writing:

"That’s what we’ve been waiting for!!"

Another added:

"bring back youtube rewind and do it proper."

This user said:

Last but not the least, YouTube Recap will also assign a certain personality to a user based on the content they have watched.
