Former NFL player and media analyst Shannon Sharpe has made his exit as an ESPN commentator.
He reportedly opened up about his experience on the Wednesday episode of the Nightcap Show. He noted that he wanted the news about his exit to be announced later, as it might have overshadowed his brother, Sterling Sharpe's, achievement of being inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
Sharpe addressed the news in a clip shared from the episode, which was shared as a collaborative post on Instagram. He explained,
"I found out this information a little earlier in the week and really the only thing that I really ask is like, guys, could we wait until Monday."
He explained that he requested the delay since he wanted it to be about his "brother" and "family's" achievement. He continued,
"I know this coming out will overshadow everything that he's worked his entire life for. And unfortunately, you know, it didn't happen that way."
Shannon Sharpe talks about not returning to ESPN following lawsuit settlement

Shannon Sharpe has confirmed that he will not be returning to ESPN's First Take as a commentator after the settlement of his lawsuit in the previous month. Variety reported that Sharpe had been accused of "s*xual assault by an ex-girlfriend" and had taken time off since late April to address the legalities.
Sharpe has now opened up about the exit news, which aligned with his brother's achievement. On the Nightcap Show episode, Sharpe revealed apologising to his brother and shared the latter's reaction. He noted,
"He said, bro, stop apologizing."
He added,
"You don't have to apologize. I'm your big bro. I'm gonna love you regardless. We all make mistakes. We all—and he says, bro, I love you. So I'm done with this. You're done with it too. Move on."
Sharpe elaborated on his time with ESPN and expressed gratitude for the same. He noted,
"I really enjoyed my time at ESPN. It gave me an opportunity to bring my audience that saw me really just grow."
However, he expressed his "wish" that ESPN would have waited until "Monday" to reveal the news of his departure.
