TV show host Andy Cohen and singer John Mayer went out for dinner on June 15, 2025. However, the plan didn’t go easily with Cohen’s kids, especially his elder son, Ben.
A peek from his talk show, Radio Andy, was shared on Instagram on June 16, 2025, in which Cohen said:
“John took me out for Father’s Day last night and Ben was so pissed that I was going out to dinner. By the way, I was going out at his bedtime, so, like, he wasn’t missing anything. He wanted to go and he revoked my Father’s Day card, which he had made for me. He took it away from me.”
Andy Cohen said they had celebrations for the whole day, and there were only 10 minutes left. He added:
“So anyway, I will say John showed up. And Ben was so mad at me. John melted him. John was singing to him. Ben was sitting there smiling. I was like, oh, okay.”
The show’s co-host, John Hill, suggested that Cohen and John Mayer could try co-parenting as Hill felt the singer was good with kids. Hill joked that he had the “opposite effect” on Ben. Cohen wasn’t too sure about the idea but said:
“He is good with kids, actually.”
Andy Cohen shared that they recently bumped into John Hill on the street, and Ben gave him a hilarious look, similar to how Seinfeld would look at Newman. Even though it was all in good fun, Ben acted like John was his nemesis, jokingly giving him a playful, exaggerated glare while still laughing.
Andy Cohen on raising two kids as a single parent
In 2023, Andy Cohen sat down with Today for an interview about his new book, The Daddy Diaries. When asked what he learned about parenting, he explained that he had always started his days in a good mood unless something disrupted it.
However, he began to feel a new kind of weight and constant worry that he hadn’t experienced before. Andy Cohen found himself questioning what used to concern him in the past, since his thoughts revolved around things like schedules, food allergies, playdates, and school events. Cohen said:
“I love them. I want to be everything for them and I think as a single parent there is, for any parent, but as a single parent, there is a feeling of I need to be there and I'm always kicking myself for times not spent with them and trying to dissect what it all means and seeking out parent friends for advice. Yeah, but I wouldn't trade it for the world by the way, yes.”
One of the hosts asked if having a second child was an easy decision for him. Andy Cohen said it was, explaining that he had hoped for a girl and also wanted his son Ben to grow up with a sibling.
He mentioned he and his older sister had always been close growing up, and he wanted to create a kind of tight-knit family for his children.
