Todd Snider’s sudden death at age 59 has left people in the music world shocked and sad. His death was announced on his official Instagram account on Nov. 15. The news came after a confusing and difficult two weeks for the singer-songwriter.

Snider was hurt in what his record label called a “violent assault” in Salt Lake City. He was then taken to a hospital, later arrested, and then hospitalized again when he returned home to Tennessee. He later died in a hospital in Hendersonville.

He wrote, “This is the worst news this am. He was such a sweet man with a brain bigger than most. Love you Todd.”

Rhett Miller, frontman of Old 97’s, also honored Snider.

He wrote, “I’m devastated. Todd was such a singularly joyful human being. We are gonna miss him. This hurts.”

Fiona Prine, widow of the late singer-songwriter John Prine, also shared her thoughts. Todd Snider released four albums on John Prine’s label Oh Boy Records between 2000 and 2004.

Fiona wrote, “We are devastated that Todd has left us way too soon. He is now in the arms of Boundless Love.”

She also said the Prine family will continue to “listen to the incredible body of work” Snider created.

Fiona added, “You are in the best of company now with Guy, John, Jerry Jeff and the troubadours who loved you as one of their very own.”

Her tribute demonstrated the high regard in which Todd Snider was held among major songwriters.

Todd Snider’s early career included time on Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Records and MCA Nashville. These connections helped him build a strong foundation in the alt-country scene. Many fans claim they discovered him due to those early label partnerships.
