Cardi B gets real about heartache and healing. The 32-year-old rapper peeled back the curtain on the loneliness that came before her split from Offset, confessing that she could feel their love "dying" long before the marriage ended.
Speaking on the Oct. 6 episode of On Purpose Podcast, Cardi B reflected on the emotional unraveling that led her to file for divorce in July 2024, just two months before she welcomed their daughter, Blossom.
"I also felt like my marriage, I felt the love dying from my end - from my end, from his end. I was very lonely because I chose to be lonely."
She shared with host Jay Shetty:
"While it was dying, I had a human growing in me, and I just kept thinking, ‘What's life going to be without this person? What's life going to be without raising my last child without this person? What's life going to be with that person not being my friend anymore?' When you have those types of thoughts, it will make you sad. It will get you depressed. It will have you lost. But I overcame that."
Cardi B reflects on healing with Shakira’s support
Cardi B revealed that it took her time to move on. At the time, she was working with Shakira on their collaborative track "Puntería." The rapper found solace in the "She Wolf" hitmaker, the two recording artists bonding over shared heartbreak and learning to heal through honest conversations.
Recalling, Shakira and her ex-husband Gerard Piqué announced their separation in June 2022. The split was caused by Piqué's infidelity, which was confirmed by the "Queen of Latin Music" herself.

The "Bodak Yellow" rapper told Jay Shetty:
"Around that time I was working with Shakira and I was like, ‘How the f*** did you overcome this? Like, how did you overcome this?' And she's like, ‘It's going to happen.' And [I'm like], it will never happen. And it happened."
Cardi B and Shakira released "Puntería" in March 2024, and the two seemed to remain close friends afterward. At the Met Gala that year in May, the two were spotted together on the staircase, posing hand in hand.
Their dresses were in contrast but a perfect blend somehow, with Cardi's voluminous black gown featuring layers upon layers of ruffled tulle, and Shakira's vivid red gown with billowing off-the-shoulder sleeves and a high slit that reveals one leg.
Meanwhile, Cardi B is currently expecting her first child with her beau, NFL player Stefon Diggs. And while it took her some time before she was finally able to trust and love another man, the rapper is stepping into this new chapter with resilience and hope.
"It took some crying, it took some thoughts, scary thoughts. But I'm here honey. I'm here, and I'm the strongest I've been. But it was hard."
