“I’ve had a lot of AI nightmares”: Elon Musk admits AI keeps him up at night

On December 9, Katie Miller dropped a new podcast featuring Elon Musk. In the latest conversation, Musk touched upon several topics like humanity, god, irrational fear, and more. Among other things, he also talked about AI (artificial intelligence) and its impact on jobs.

To start with, Elon Musk highlighted the positive side of AI. He said that given the current trend of artificial intelligence and robotics, people won’t have to work in future. He went on to say that AI will provide all the goods and services very soon.

“Assuming the current trend of artificial intelligence and robotics continues, which seems likely, the um AI and robots will be able to do anything that that humans want them to do essentially. So hopefully not more than that, but AI and robotics will be able to provide us provide all the goods and services that anyone could possibly want."

Elon Musk also claimed that people will be able to do whatever they like as work will be optional.

“People people will be able to do whatever they want with their free time. Um work will be optional."

Moving ahead, Musk also added that he would like to slow down AI due to its rapidly growing trend.

“Um I if if I could I I would I would certainly slow down uh AI and robotics, but I can't. It seems to be well it's it's it's advancing at a very rapid pace.”

Furthermore, when Elon Musk was asked about anything that kept him up at night, he revealed that he had a lot of AI nightmares in the past. He even had nightmares in a row.

“Oh, AI. Yeah. Actually, l've had a lot of Al nightmares. Uh I had AI nightmares many days in a row.”

Elon Musk also talked about impact of social media in today’s world

Elsewhere, the Tesla mogul also opened up about social media’s impact on people. He agreed that social media is making people performative.

“Well, social media makes people more performative. Um, by the same token, you get more real life video of of things that that are actually happening and and anything that is very interesting will go viral on the internet."

Musk also said that given the performative impact, people do anything for more views on TikTok or reels.

“Um, so so you have both. You've got more performative where people are doing anything they can to get a few more views on their Tik Tok video or whatever or their reels or maybe on their X post or something.”

Elon Musk also added that certain real life videos challenge the narrative of performative impact.
