Jillian Lauren, a bestselling author and the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was involved in a police shooting in Los Angeles on April 8, 2025. The police say they were chasing hit-and-run suspects when they came across Lauren outside her home in Eagle Rock. According to video footage, she was armed and did not drop her weapon when told to by the police.

The Los Angeles Police Department says officers believed Lauren was a threat, and hence was shot in the arm or shoulder. Police say she fired a gun, although there is some confusion about whether she knew she was facing law enforcement. After being treated at a hospital, Lauren was booked on suspicion of attempted murder of a police officer.

Lauren appeared in court for the first time on April 30, 2025, but has not yet spoken publicly. Prosecutors have not yet filed official charges. She is currently out on a $1 million bond. Her next court date is scheduled for May 13, 2025.

What happened during the LAPD shooting involving Jillian Lauren?

As reported by Rolling Stone on May 1, 2025, the shooting happened when LAPD and CHP officers were searching for suspects in a hit-and-run case. They chased three people who ran into a residential area in Eagle Rock. During the search, officers entered Jillian Lauren’s backyard, where they say they found her armed with a handgun.

Body camera and home video footage show officers telling Jillian Lauren to drop the weapon. They shouted, “Put the gun down!” and said they were police. According to the LAPD, Lauren racked her gun and appeared to point it at the officers, and one officer believed she fired toward them. Police fired back, wounding her in the upper arm or shoulder.

According to NBC News on May 1, 2025, Jillian Lauren ran inside after being shot, and later called 911 from inside her house. In the call, she said, the police asked her to “put down the f*cking gun, and then he shot me.” The call suggests she may have thought she was facing the hit-and-run suspects, not police officers.
