Fox News host Johnny Belisario recently interviewed people on the street about their thoughts on Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle ad, which came under much controversy.
On August 8, the outlet shared a video where Belisario asked people about their opinions on Sydney Sweeney. While one person said she is beautiful, another male added that she is cute.
Sharing their thoughts about having a good genealogy, one man said it was a good way of tracing their history. The host asked this person if he would buy a product if the person who modeled for it was ugly. The person said no, adding that nobody would want to put on that product and look ugly. Johnny Belisario said:
“S*x sells.”
The person countered:
“Not ugly s*x.”
A woman, weighing in on this topic, asked who created the standard of being ugly. He then asked her if she thought he looked ugly, and her reaction was:
“No, my God.”
Another person said she was not a huge fan of Sweeney, while a male claimed the actress presented one set of assets. When Johnny Belisario asked a woman about the American Eagle ad, she said:
“I actually have not seen the ad.”
A person, seated on a bench, told Johnny Belisario that he had no idea who she was. The host then asked him where he lived, and he said it was Manhattan. Belisario joked that he expected ‘under the rock.’ He then showed the person who Sydney Sweeney was, and his reaction was that she looked pretty.
The host then tried to explain to him why people were outraged over the ad, and he said it could be because she was trying to endorse an overpriced product.
What did people comment about Sydney Sweeney when Johnny Belisario asked about the ongoing hate towards the ad?
When Johnny Belisario asked one of the women what she would like to tell everyone upset about Sydney Sweeney’s ad, she replied that people shouldn't care so much. One of the men said these critics should get a life and grow up. Similarly, others tried to speculate on the reason for the criticism the ad received, saying:
“She is hinting at white supremacy,” a person said.
“Blonde hair, blue-eyed girl and it’s just kind of insensitive?” a woman told Johnny Belisario.
“I don’t understand, but you can understand st*pid and crazy,” another woman claimed.
Johnny Belisario said that people perceived the American Eagle ad to be promoting Nazi propaganda, to which a person reacted that it was disrespectful.
In other news, singer Lizzo has seemingly shared her thoughts about the ongoing controversy. She shared two video clips on social media, one of which had Sydney Sweeney’s name. The lines are:
“I got good jeans like I am Sydney.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lizzo’s next post contained a clip in which a person was seen sharing their thoughts about the controversy. Donald Trump previously said that he loved her ad.
However, he noted that the American Eagle ad was fantastic if Sydney Sweeney were a registered Republican. Amidst all the hue and cry over the ad, the actress has not yet responded to the criticism.
