A New York-based family is mourning the loss of their son, Kevin Mares, a reported bystander who was fatally shot in Puerto Rico. CBS News confirmed that Kevin was visiting the island with his girlfriend, Angy Arguello and two friends, for a Bad Bunny concert.
The news outlet spoke to Kevin's aggrieved family, who are coming to terms with the news of their son's unfortunate passing. His father, Hector Mares, described the details of the incident and noted that they were venturing outside their resort in "Old San Juan." He added,
"Across the street, there was a bunch of people, and then they started arguing, something, and some guy, he had a gun, took it out and start shooting."
Mares' family expressed grief and shock upon receiving the news from his girlfriend on the morning of August 10. Kevin's father recalled,
"I said, 'What happened?' She said, 'I'm sorry. We lost him.'"
Thinking of the consequences of the devastating news, Kevin's mother, Sandra, reported,
"Whoever did this, I mean, it's like he took from us a piece of us, you know?"

Kevin Mares's family are left shocked and coping with the unfortunate loss of their beloved family member. Kevin's mother took to her Instagram on August 12 and revealed the family has started a GoFundMe link to "help with the funeral expenses" at the "Frederick Funeral Home." She noted,
"We are asking for anyone who can help with our beloved Kevin Mares funeral expenses on this difficult time anything can help if you can't donate please share he was a beautiful person with beautiful soul always smiling unfortunately he was taken from us to soon."
Sandra Mares took to her Instagram story on August 12 to remember her son and noted,
"Our lives will never be the same without you. we love you son."
The family's GoFundMe link described Kevin Mares as a,
"deeply loved son, devoted friend, and a source of inspiration to everyone who knew him."
They paid tribute to him and noted,
"His wholehearted kindness, adventurous spirit, and unwavering commitment to family made him a pillar of strength for his loved ones. Kevin had a bright future ahead, with plans to propose to his girlfriend of six years this fall, and he was always creating memories with those closest to him."
At the time of writing, approximately $25,000 has been raised for Kevin's funeral expenses, which is halfway through the family's goal.
