Matt Walsh talks about people not wanting to have children in today’s economy
In November 2024, Matt Walsh posted a YouTube video discussing how people choosing not to have children could affect the future. Despite the choices, he felt the population was still growing, though the rate had slowed down. He said:
“We have long since crossed the crucial threshold in this country where our fertility rate is now below replacement level we are no longer having enough babies to replace older people as they die off and as a consequence our population itself grows older and more top-heavy and all kinds of complications follow from that and those complications quickly turn into catastrophes.”
Addressing the concerns many people have about not wanting to have children, Matt Walsh said the economy, which many perceive to be a hindrance, was not the reason for remaining childless. However, he also said:
“I'm not denying that the economy is in poor shape at the moment but that is not a good reason or a valid reason for a society to give up on the family if anything it's all the more reason not to give up on the family.”
Matt Walsh said that as more people grow older and there are not enough young people to take their place, it could hurt the economy rather than help it. He also said that people didn’t need to be rich or come from wealthy families to start a family. He thought it was wrong that many people believed they had to be millionaires to afford to have even one child. He shared that he didn’t have any family wealth when he started his own family.
