Monique Angela “Mo’Nique” Hicks’ eldest son Shalon Jackson has apologized to his mother in a recent TikTok video. In a four-minute-long clip, he took responsibility for his actions for airing his grievances last year. In a series of TikTok videos from February 2024, Jackson called out his mother for their estrangement.
Shalon praised his family for their patience during his public outbursts as he began speaking,
“I want to start this off by showing my gratitude towards my family. The amount of patience and grace that they have all shown me, especially during times when I did not deserve it, is appreciated more than I can ever express in words.”
Jackson took accountability for the words he used for his mother, Mo’Nique, and continued saying,
“Making those videos a year ago was a betrayal against our family and I have to take full accountability for it. Why I made the videos and how I was feeling at the time when I made them is irrelevant. I made them and I shouldn’t have. Period. My family did not deserve the backlash that they received from what I said.”
In the TikTok video, Shalon maintained that he shouldn’t have posted anything and talked about Mo’Nique and her husband, Sidney. He also addressed his improved relationship with his younger half-brothers and revealed how his children got to share memories with their grandmother.
Shalon Jackson speaks about his mother, Mo’Nique, and their family in a heartfelt apology video
The Precious actress appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast (hosted by Shannon Sharpe) last year in February, where she addressed her estranged relationship with her eldest son. After the episode went live, Shalon Jackson called out Mo’Nique, holding her accountable for the issues in their relationship. He accused her of not being an ideal parent in a TikTok video.
After a public fallout with her son, Mo’Nique posted a video with her husband, Sidney, addressing Jackson’s mental health and sharing pictures of her text messages with her son from 2021. Shalon hit back at her in another video, which also garnered the actress hate on social media. In his recent TikTok clip, Mo’Nique’s son talked about her mother’s video and said,
“My mother and Sydney were very justified to address my mental health condition at the time. I just simply didn’t like it. Taking accountability can be hard, if I allow it to be. Bottom line, I was wrong and shouldn't have said any of what I said. I should’ve just kept my mouth shut and called my mother.”
He lauded her mother and then talked about his younger brothers,
“It's a very humbling experience when your little brothers have a valid reason to want to punch their older brother in the face. But it was my brothers who had the idea for us to have a conversation in-person, which would prevent me from running from it.”
Shalon revealed that after the conversation with his brothers, they hugged him, and eventually, things became better. He praised Sidney for being an ideal father to his half-brothers. He continued,
“Life does have a way of showing up for you even when you don't want it to. Making the decision to go no contact with my family, hurting me more than I could've ever imagined, which in turn trickled down to not just [...] Trickled down to me not being the best man, father, and future husband that I could be for my family.”
Shalon Jackson claimed that in the past year, his relationship with his mother, Mo’Nique, improved significantly, which also allowed him to reconnect with her grandchildren. Jackson apologized on behalf of the hateful comments that the Oscar-winning actress got last year.
Shalon concluded the video with some pictures of Mo’Nique and his children, including the ones from their Memorial Day family reunion last weekend.
