The musician and songwriter Terry Reid has passed away at the age of 75. He had been battling cancer for a long time before his death. His fans raised more than $46,000 on GoFundMe to support him. Due to his cancer treatment, he had to postpone his UK, Ireland, and Norway tour.
Terry’s fans and friends donated and tried to get as much help as possible. By early August, the page had raised over $46,930 from more than 300 gifts. The GoFundMe page reads:
”Dear friends and fellow music lovers, It’s never easy to ask for help — especially when it comes to someone as proud, private, and profoundly humble as Terry Reid. But today, we are reaching out on his behalf with heavy hearts."
Terry Reid's early life and music career
Terry Reid began singing and playing guitar from a very young age. In his teens, he joined Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers, and this group toured with big names. In the late 1960s, Reid began his solo career. He opened for Cream, Fleetwood Mac, and others. His voice was soulful and very powerful, which gave him the nickname “Super Lungs.” He was famously invited by Jimmy Page to front the band that would become Led Zeppelin — an offer he turned down. He later also turned down a chance to join Deep Purple.
He released several albums over the years. His debut was Bang Bang, You’re Terry Reid in 1968. Later albums included River (1973) and Seed of Memory (1976). Though not commercially massive, his albums earned critical respect and a dedicated fanbase. He also wrote songs that other artists recorded.

Terry Reid's final months and fans’ support
In mid‑2025, Terry had to cancel shows scheduled in the UK, Ireland, and Norway, which included a festival date in St Ives. His team said the cancellation was because of recent cancer treatment that pushed the new dates to 2026 at best.
Soon after that news, his team launched a GoFundMe campaign to help with medical costs. The page said:
"Over the past several months, Terry has been courageously battling cancer as well as numerous other serious health issues. His fight has been quiet and brave, but it has also come at a great personal cost. He's been in and out of the hospital, enduring rounds of treatment and uncertainty — and, most recently, was forced to cancel his long-anticipated six-week tour. The financial strain has become overwhelming, and the medical bills are mounting by the day."

Donations reached over $46,000. Fans also left messages of love and encouragement. Messages from fans spoke of how deeply he moved them. Tributes from friends and fans have poured in all over the internet. Musician Joe Bonamassa said:
"Goodbye my friend. It was an honor to get to know you as friend and a musical mentor. I will miss our hangs and stories in Palm Springs. One of the greatest to ever do it and a beautiful person and soul. Rest in peace Terry Reid. My deepest condolences to his family on this terrible day."
Terry Reid is remembered not only for his singing but also because many artists covered his songs. He supported other musicians in recording studios and stayed humble and quiet offstage until his illness. Reid’s death brought to a close a life steeped in music and artistic integrity. He is survived by family and many fans who loved him. Though gone, his music and his spirit will live on.
