Elon Musk has lately been claiming that money would not remain relevant in the future after significant advancements in AI and robotics. Musk recently pinned one of his X posts in which he claimed that the future would be "amazing" as AI and robots would achieve "sustainable abundance for all."

On Monday, author and cartoonist Scott Adams reacted to a post about the recently unveiled 'Trump Account.' The Dilbert comic strip creator commented:

"Will money have value when the kids turn 18?"

Elon Musk quickly responded to Adams' question and wrote:

"Civilization will either be gone or AI/robotics will eliminate scarcity... Either way, money won’t matter."

Netizens were quick to share their reactions when the world's richest man remarked that money would not matter in the future. Reacting to Musk's post, an X user commented:

"Says the guy with half a trillion."

Internet erupts after Elon Musk says that AI and robots will make money pointless in future

An X user went on to ask Elon Musk for his money.

"If you believe that then can we have some of yours?"

Another netizen took swipes at Musk's recent payout package approved by Tesla shareholders.

"Oh OK. Now, I understand the $1T pay package you asked for."

An X user opined that Musk's view might take place in the long term, but it would require a huge sum of money to reach that point.

"That’s a relatively long term view, though. A couple of decades, at least. Mars colony is going to take a lot of money between now and then."

An internet user disputed Musk's claim and remarked that scarcity would always exist.

"As long as humans can’t live forever, scarcity will always exist. Time is our most valuable resource."

Another netizen said that AI could reduce scarcity but it would require Universal Basic Income or redistribution in transition.

"AI can reduce scarcity, but transitions matter. Without UBI or redistribution in place before mass automation, you get instability, not abundance. Post-scarcity is engineered. Ignore the transition and money matters more, not less."

An X user called Elon Musk's claim a "utopian aspiration" that is far from present strategy.

"That sounds more like an utopian aspiration than a real business plan—maybe in the later part of the product development cycle—money will be replaced to non monetary measures—but that’s a lot further down the road and not a real life present day strategy."

Elon Musk recently shared his thoughts on money with Katie Miller

Elon Musk articulated his thoughts on money during his recent appearance on Katie Miller's podcast. In the December 9 episode of The Katie Miller Podcast, the host asked the SpaceX founder why he claimed that people don't need to worry about money.

"Assuming the current trend of artificial intelligence and robotics continues, which seems likely, the AI and robots will be able to do anything that that humans want to want them to do essentially. So hopefully not more than that, but AI and robotics will be able to provide us provide all the goods and services that anyone could possibly want."

Elon Musk recently became the first person in the world whose net worth crossed $700 billion.
