Scarlett Johansson wrapped up the 50th season of SNL with a surprise performance.
Actress Scarlett Johansson brought a close to the 50th season of the sketch comedy live show Saturday Night Live. But instead of making it a rowdy affair, the Marvel actress kept it low-key and memorable.
Starting with a ballad dedicated to the current cast of the show, Johansson went into song,
“Sing us a song, it’s your monologue, the 50th season is through,” she sang, along with Bowen Yang, Mikey Day, Heidi Gardner and more. “It’s lasting forever, we did it together, and we got to spend it with you.”
“Ladies and gentlemen, Billy Joel!” she added, “wrote this song.”
She also did a few skits, including a Rap Battle in ‘Please Don’t Destroy’ Sketch with Bad Bunny. The sketch was a dig at the Newark Liberty International Airport, which recently faced outages and scaled back operations. In the sketch, Scarlett is flying John Higgins, Ben Marshall, and Martin Herlihy in business class, and it all seems fine until they find out they are flying to Newark.
Towards the end, Herlihy yelled, “Looks like this is it, guys. Anything to get off your chest?” to which Scar Jo replied, “This might sound corny, but the only thing I regret is that ‘Avengers’ didn’t make more money at the box office."
They later find out musical guest Bad Bunny is the newbie air traffic controller.
Another memorable moment for the final installment of the season shows Scarlett Johansson making Michael Che squirm and get revenge on him. Last year, Che made an uncomfortable quip at the actress through her husband Colin Jost in their joke-swapping bit. But Scarlett got him back good as she had hom read off a mortifying apology.
“The fact is, I was just lashing out because I’m jealous. I’ve never ever seen a human vagina. And notice I said ‘human’ because I once spent the summer on a farm.”
“Maybe I’m just embarrassed about my own body,” the fake news anchor said. “I can’t even take my hoodie off during sex because I have more nipples than a pregnant dog.”
Then turning to Jost, he forced himself to say, “I’ve told thousands of jokes on ‘Update’ and gotten dozens of laughs, but I’ve never said the three most important words of all: I love you.”
This was apparently a long time coming as Scarlett Johansson teased her plan in a recent interview, stating,
“I feel like it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back. Retaliation, I’d say, should be expected.”
Scarlett Johansson makes SNL history
ScarJo set a new record with this episode, as the first woman to host the show seven times, making the milestone episode that much more special. The show came to an end with her husband, who is also one of the writers and producers of the show, coming up to her at curtain call with a bouquet of flowers and giving her a kiss.
He also gave a funny tribute to the 80-year-old creator of the show Lorne Michaels, “It’s SNL’s 50th season, so I want to take a moment to say something to our boss,” Jost said. “Lorne, retire, bitch! let me run the show.”
