Tesla founder Elon Musk recently sat for an interview with Joe Rogan. In the October 31 episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, the billionaire touched on many topics. During a segment, the host discussed Tesla cars with the billionaire. In the interview, Rogan inquired about Tesla's Roadster second-generation car and asked if he was still working on the much-awaited car.
"Yes. Eventually, we're getting close to demonstrating the prototype and I think this will be, for one thing, I can guarantee that this product demo will be unforgettable... Whether it's good or bad, it will be unforgettable," Musk said.
Joe Rogan asked the SpaceX founder to elaborate on how it would be unforgettable. To which, the billionaire said that his "friend" Peter Thiel earlier reflected that the future must have flying cars. Rogan wondered and followed up, asking if the new Roadster will be able to fly. Without a straightforward answer, Musk hinted at a flying car, saying:
"I mean, I think if Peter wants a flying car, we should should be able to buy one."
Joe Rogan seemed more curious and asked if he was "actively considering making an electric flying car," wondering if this was a "real thing." Replying to him, Elon Musk said:
"Well, we have to see in the demo."
The podcast host pressed for more details and inquired if it will have "retractable wings."
"I can't—I can't, uh, do the unveil before the unveil."
However, Elon Musk revealed some additional details of this project.
Elon Musk plans to unveil the hinted flying car before the end of this year
Elon Musk noted that his upcoming project has a shot at "being the most memorable um product unveil ever." When asked about the expected unveiling date of this much-hyped product, Elon Musk stated:
"Hopefully before the end of the year... This is, I mean, we're in a couple of months. Hopefully in a couple months. You know we need to make sure that it works. Like this is some crazy crazy technology we got in this car."
The second-generation Roadster was proposed to become available in 2020. However, the project has faced multiple delays for various reasons. Joe Rogan sought clarification and asked Musk whether the new Roadster would differ from the previously announced version. He also questioned if the inclusion of new technology was causing the delay. Elon Musk summarized by saying that this upcoming car will be crazier than "James Bond cars."
"It has crazy technology. Like, is it even a car? I'm not sure. It's like it looks like a car. Let's just put this way. It is crazier than anything James Bond. If you took all the James Bond cars and combined them, it's crazier than that," he added.
Earlier on October 31, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared three screenshots in his X post showing that he cancelled his Roadster reservation after waiting for "7.5 years."
