Sirius XM podcaster Megyn Kelly is seemingly upset with Ben Shapiro, political commentator and co-founder of The Daily Wire. According to Shapiro, Kelly did not do a good job in condemning conspiracy theorists like Candace Owens, who have made statements in connection with Charlie Kirk’s murder.
On December 18, at the AmericaFest conference organised by Turning Point USA, Ben Shapiro called out Candace Owens for attacking TPUSA and those who have been with Kirk. He opined that Erika Kirk and the organisation did not deserve to be put in a position where they had to defend themselves. He also said:
“And the people who refuse to condemn Candace's truly vicious attacks, and some of them are speaking here, are guilty of cowardice. Yes, cowardice. The fact that they have said nothing while Candace has been vomiting all sorts of hideous and conspiratorial n*nsense into the public square for years is just as cowardly.”
Mentioning Megyn Kelly and Tucker Carlson, he said:
“So, no, Tucker Carlson, it is not an excuse to go silent on Candace's targeting of TPUSA. Personally, the same holds true of Megyn Kelly, a person I consider a friend, characterizing Candace as a young mother and thus shying away from condemning her actions.”
He said there was only one moral side in the situation, which was Erika Kirk’s. Ben Shapiro’s speech was reshared on X by CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss. Resharing Weiss’s post, Megyn Kelly wrote:
“.@benshapiro & @bariweiss in a joint attack on yours truly (their “friend”) tonight w/o a damn clue what has been going on behind the scenes for months. Prob should have checked w/@TPUSA & @MrsErikaKirk first. I’m embarrassed for them.”
What else did Ben Shapiro say at the conference?
During his speech, Ben Shapiro called Charlie Kirk an “irreplaceable human being.” He said he had known Kirk since the latter was 18. Over the years, he saw Kirk become a powerful figure in the conservative movement. He also said:
“But it's also sweet to see the number of people who continue to remember Charlie each and every day and to carry on his mission.”
Speaking about his stance on political issues, Shapiro said:
“My fundamental values have been the same for 25 years. Peace through strength on foreign policy, traditional values on social policy, free markets with regard to economics.”
He said that one of the duties as a commentator is to speak the truth. Ben Shapiro said he, like other speakers, is obligated to be clear and honest about their opinions. He said one should not simply market oneself on generality. He mentioned that fear must not stop them from giving the audience the truth.
While calling out Megyn Kelly, he said that friendship with someone who has attacked TPUSA is an act of cowardice. Ben Shapiro also said that show hosts were responsible for the guests they invited and the questions they asked.
He explained that because they had a duty to tell the truth, they also had to back up their claims with real proof. He said that emotional claims, conspiracy theories, or simply asking questions without facts were careless, misleading, and not a replacement for truth or evidence.
