Malaysian rapper Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, has been the subject of an investigation into the murder of an online Taiwanese influencer, Iris Hsieh Yu-hsin (a.k.a. Nurse Goddess). On October 22, 2025, Hsieh was found dead in a bathtub of a hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Initially, being the first case to be treated as a sudden death, it was reclassified as a murder under the Malaysian Penal Code in Section 302.Before the tragedy, reports indicate that Namewee and Hsieh had been collaborating on the same video project. Namewee said that he attempted to perform CPR after Hsieh was unresponsive and called emergency services. This attracted the attention of the masses because the investigation was expanded to possible drug involvement and suspicious conditions of her death.Namewee has since surrendered himself to the police and denied any wrongdoing. Investigators have also ascertained that he is cooperating with the probe, and post-mortem and toxicology tests are yet to be submitted to show how Hsieh actually died.Namewee turns himself in and denies fleeingAs reported by Malay Mail on November 5, 2025, Namewee reported to the police in Kuala Lumpur voluntarily to help in the investigation of the murder. He visited Johor Bahru to meet the investigators and said that he had nothing to hide and he wanted to clear his name. He rejected allegations that he was running away since he had never defied the law enforcers before.The police had confirmed that he was the last to see Hsieh before her death was discovered in her hotel room. He claims to have found her dead body, tried to resuscitate her, and contacted the ambulance. But the nature of the scene made the police reclassify the case as murder.The police are analyzing the hotel's surveillance videos and reviewing the records of the two individuals' movements in the period leading up to the incident. Namewee was also arrested on the same day on allegations of possession and use of drugs. He also tested positive for amphetamines, methamphetamine, ketamine, and THC. He was held for two days and was later freed after he pleaded not guilty to the charges.According to him, the accusations of his being a drug user were false, and he promised to give maximum cooperation to investigators. His law firm has requested an outsider to examine the toxicology findings with the aim of providing fairness to the procedure.Hotel workers and security guards have been interviewed by the police. CCTV videos are under scrutiny with the aim of determining the chronology of events. The last hours of both Hsieh and Namewee are also being investigated to have an idea of what occurred before the death of an influencer.
