Philanthropist and former spouse of Jeff Bezos, MacKenzie Scott, made a generous donation to Alabama State University, the X account @FearedBuck reported on October 28. As seen in the post, the University’s President, Dr. Quinton T. Ross Jr., said in a letter:“Today marks a defining moment in the history of Alabama State University. I am filled with immense gratitude and proud to announce that Alabama State University has received the largest single donation in its 158-year history. Philanthropist MacKenzie Scott has donated an extraordinary $38 million gift to our great University.”The statement continued:“Ms. Scott's generosity affirms Alabama State University's reputation as a catalyst for excellence and innovation in higher education. This is truly a pivotal moment in ASU's history.”According to Forbes, as of writing, Scott’s net worth is $33.6 billion. She met Bezos in 1993, and a year later, they tied the knot as per PEOPLE. The couple moved to Seattle in 1994. Their divorce came through in 2019. In 2021, she married Dan Jewett, a teacher from Seattle, but they parted ways in 2022.MacKenzie Scott has made several donations in the past. For instance, in 2020, during the time of COVID-19, she shared a post on Medium, writing that she had donated over $1.7 billion to 116 non-profit organizations, followed by $4.15 billion to 384 organizations six months later, as reported by The New York Times.
