Video game designer and co-founder of Infinity Ward, Vince Zampella, has died at the age of 55. Zampella was head of two game development studios: Ripple Effect Studios and Respawn Entertainment. He was famously known for co-creating the popular game Call of Duty.
In the new video released by TMZ, reported to be of Vince Zampella's car crash, he is seen driving a red Ferrari, which hits a concrete barrier after possibly skidding. The car caught fire after the crash. The video is said to be from Angeles Crest Highway in Altadena, California.
Reports suggest there was one more person in the car with Vince at the time of the crash. However, the identity of the other person has not been revealed yet. Authorities have not confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
Respawn Entertainment releases a statement on Vince Zampella's death
Vince Zampella's company, Respawn Entertainment, has released a statement on X on Vince Zampella's death that reads:
"We're heartbroken by the passing of our founder and dear friend Vince Zampella. Vince was a titan and legend of this industry, a visionary leader and a force who shaped teams and games like Call of Duty, Titanfall, Apex Legends, the Star Wars Jedi series and Battlefield for our community in ways that will be felt for generations."
The statement continues:
"His impact reached far beyond any one game or studio. We will remember Vince for how he showed up every day, trusting his teams, encouraging bold ideas, and believing in Respawn & Battlefield. Most importantly, he championed what he believed was right for the people behind those studios and our players because it mattered. We will miss him greatly. Our hearts are with his family, friends, and all who love him."
His other company, Infinity Ward, also released a statement that read:
"Rest in peace Vince. As one of the founders of Infinity Ward and Call of Duty, you will always have a special place in our history. Your legacy of creating iconic, lasting entertainment is immeasurable. Our deepest condolences to Vince’s family and loved ones upon this terrible tragedy."
According to a press release statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the person in the passenger seat was thrown from the car while the driver was trapped in the Ferrari after the crash. However, neither of them survived.
Officials are investigating the crash to find out exactly what happened and collect all available information.
