CNN journalist Anderson Cooper was mocked by President Donald Trump in a post on Truth Social on June 23. While criticizing the coverage of the Iran-Israel conflict by certain media news channels, the President used the name “Allison Cooper” to refer to the political commentator.

While taking a jab at Cooper, Trump also targeted news coverage of the conflict by terming it ‘fake.’ He wrote,

“The sites that we hit in Iran were totally destroyed, and everyone knows it. Only the Fake News would say anything different in order to try and demean, as much as possible — And even they say they were “pretty well destroyed!” Working especially hard on this falsehood is Allison Cooper of Fake News CNN”

Continuing, the President altered the names of other news organizations, and added,

“Dumb Brian L. Roberts, Chairman of “Con”cast, Jonny Karl of ABC Fake News, and always, the Losers of, again, Concast’s NBC Fake News. It never ends with the sleazebags in the Media, and that’s why their Ratings are at an ALL TIME LOW — ZERO CREDIBILITY!”

This is not the first time that Donald Trump has targeted Anderson Cooper

During his re-election campaign in October 2024, Trump again mocked Cooper’s name, and calling him “Allison” instead of Anderson.

Trump posted on Truth Social after his opponent, the former Vice President Kamala Harris appeared in a CNN Town Hall hosted by Cooper in late October. While criticizing Harris’ stance, Trump also targeted Cooper and the program, and wrote,

“Kamala again made a fool of herself last night at a Radical Left fundraiser, and this after putting on a very Low IQ display at a FAKE NEWS CNN Town Hall. She was almost incoherent, and even host Allison Cooper, who couldn’t get her to make any sense, became agitated.”

According to The New York Times, Trump referred to Cooper as “Allison” multiple times over his campaign, including at rallies. As per the publication, Cooper was called “Allison Cooper” by Trump multiple times in rallies. The publication noted that during one rally in Michigan, Trump further mocked Cooper by saying,

“Oh, she said no, his name is Anderson. Oh no.”

Anderson Cooper’s personal life, explored

Cooper, who hosts CNN’s Anderson Cooper 360°, The Whole Story with Anderson Cooper and the podcast, All There Is with Anderson Cooper, openly came out as gay in 2012, according to The New York Times.

While writing for The Daily Beast, Andrew Sullivan noted that Cooper came out when he gave him permission to post an email in which Cooper wrote,

“The fact is, I'm gay, always have been, always will be, and I couldn’t be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud.”

Cooper had been in a long-term relationship with his partner, Benjamin Maisani. However, in 2018, Cooper opened up to People Magazine about the couple’s split, saying that even though they broke up, they remain close as a family.

Cooper is a father to two children. His first son, Wyatt Morgan Cooper was born in 2020 via a surrogate, as per CNN. His second child, Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper was born two years later, also via a surrogate, according to People Magazine.
