A Los Angeles-based designer, Marko Monroe, has created a Labubu for Lady Gaga. According to Just Jared, the songstress was spotted with her security in Malibu. One of the noticeable accessories she carried was the Labubu, a type of plush toy.

The outlet mentioned that the toy was designed by Monroe based on the singer’s Mayhem Ball tour looks. The designer shared a few glimpses of the doll on his Instagram. He wrote:

“A wild 24 hours - making a custom labubu for @ladygaga thank you for trusting me to bring it to life @wanaynay - still beaming.”

Marko Monroe is an alumnus of the University of Central Arkansas, from which he received his Fine Arts degree. He had worked with singer Lizzo for some time. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monroe spent time designing clothes for his near and dear ones. He also worked as an intern with Syrian artist Diana Al-Hadid.

In an interview with his alma mater in 2020, he was asked if working with Diana Al-Hadid changed his feelings about using his Arkansas background in his style. Marko Monroe said it did, adding that while he was still in school, he used to feel shy or unsure about being from Arkansas.

However, after moving away, he began to see it as something special about himself. He mentioned that being part of the House of Avalon helped him have more fun and not take things too seriously.

According to him, it also influenced the way he thought about fashion. He added that he followed a different trajectory than other artists, while holding on to the creative skills he gained at his alma mater.

Marko Monroe looks back on his time at his alma mater

During the interview, when asked how he felt while working with Lizzo, Marko Monroe said that he usually woke up in a different city and started the day by checking emails and planning for the week or month. With the singer’s fame, new events and shows were often added without much notice.

Despite that, Marko Monroe tried to stay ahead by preparing early, since most of her clothes had to be specially made for her. Reflecting on his learnings from his alma mater, Monroe said:

“Being a student at UCA may not have specifically led me into this direction but it taught me how to be adaptable, set priorities, execute a vision, have confidence in my intuition and be open to critique.”

He went on:

“The studio classes were where I learned how to develop the language in which I communicated ideas while being able to share openly with my peers, their criticism, that was essential.”

Marko Monroe said that studying at UCA helped him prepare for his career. However, he also admitted that he should have focused more on learning the business side of things. He shared that he had the habit of sending emails too quickly without checking them, and sometimes had trouble clearly explaining his ideas.
